Flash loads one frame at a time, So the easiest way to make a preloader is to put an image, possibly an animated gif in the first frame, then in the second frame place every movie clip you use in the movie. Have it skip over this frame, and have the game on the third frame.
There are tons of tutorials out there if you want to make one with a loading bar and percentages or what not. However, the most important thing to remember (and for some reason most tutorials don't tell you this) is the default is to load the assets on the first frame, and you have to select not to do this, or it will load everything before the preloader, making the preloader pointless.
Unfortunately, this is not a game, and so I am not going to rate it. Good luck with your class.
