That's more what I expected. Needs more to it, obviously, but a good start. Also, it's a little odd when firing anywhere outside the middle, as your shot follows the 3d column, but that column doesn't match up quite with where the gun is pointing. Consider having the player's ship rotate so it point down the column it is shooting down.
