I see people asking if the ending can be avoided- I think that's a no. I definitely landed a bunch of shots, he doesn't seem to take damage. It would ruin the drama of it all, anyway.

Can't get back to the surface. If the "W" or 'up' keys are the control for swimming back up, it isn't working for me. Once in the water, I can't get back to the surface. No instructions beyond the arrow keys and WASD keys images.

I am pretty sure that there is only one ending. I got quite a few shots in without any more reaction than a red flash. No actual damage.

If you open the game in a new private window, it will get you past day 2. All of a sudden it becomes a great little game.

Towards thee I roll, thou all destroying but unconquering whale! To the last I grapple with thee, from Hell's heart I stab at thee, for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee! Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool! And since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the spear

For those wondering about how to get the ending, it's fairly simple and you should accomplish it easily, but just go as deep as you possibly can.

PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEMS: are you using Chrome? If not, wake up, it's 2019, Chrome is the way to go. I never had ANY problem on ANY game here, using Chrome. The game is great and very emotional, I remember this one.

@Laurapalooza, Yes I read the top comments. However they didn't help whatsoever. The fish don't seem to die after bleeding, and they randomly fall apart. Not all the fish have red "mouths" and fish of the same size that die in the same way give VASTLY different amounts of money. The whole game feels incomprehensible and inconsistent.

@Kasic: it tells you the more intact the fish is the more money you get, so you're obviously supposed to hit a big, main line and then let them bleed. obviously the bigger the fish the more money you get. the red squares are also obviously the mouth as that's what damages you. the top comments even include tips!

This game could have been good, if it wasn't so impossible to understand. How do I know where to hit the fish? Does it matter? Is it better to let them bleed out to die? Should I do that? What are the red squares? What are the green squares? Does the size of the fish matter? I've been playing for 15 minutes trying to find out these things and I can't. 2/5

For those looking for guffins, I think there are only a limited amount that spawn each day no matter how much you look. So if you don't find any one day try hunting as much as you can, end the day, and check the next day.

If guffins are required to buy a fishing license, then why don't you come across guffins naturally? That being said, where did the captain get all those guffins? Cap has some explaining to do.

If you dive down to the depths where it starts to get dark, every fish comes equipped with jaws down there. You can fill your storage without ever shooting if you hang around a fish for a few seconds because others will come and start attacking it. Or you could fire once, get some blood in the water to start a frenzy. They'll be less intact, but it's faster and easier than shooting down the giant fish.

i still say it's really tedious, grindy, and kinda boring. the music is nice until it isn't very nice (i.e. menacing) anymore. never finished the game back in the day. dunno why i finished it now. still remain perplexed why the "fisherman" looks like a giant plankton. or maybe that was the part of the terribly deep hunter/hunted script. pretty silly, either way.

Great Game. 10/5. Really one of the best games I've played, for how simple it is. It was a very relaxing game, as long as you kept a cool head about getting nibbled on 1 -2 times a day

I just beat the game and wow. I planned on going straight down immediately after I bought the upgrade. Before the tip told me to, but then I started to go down and the fish became the size of dinosaurs and I went running to the surface. (I decided to buy all the upgrades first [for no particular reason].) Then I did it and the ending was both unexpected and also makes sense. It was obvious something was going to happen with Captain Connell, but I didn't expect that. Overall, I'd give this game a solid 6/5. It was great.
