Fun game. The smoke ring mechanic was very unsatisfying to use though. Particularly there was one level in the swamp section that required you to blow 5 perfect smoke rings in a row with perfect timing, not messing up the slightest bit once. The charge and release mechanic of the smoke ring made that section feel pretty crumby, took more tries that it aught to have.
Otherwise though, fun game.

My All-time favorite lines:
Jack-"I can't tell if that is a belief or a coping mechanism."
Kathryn-"What's the difference?"

I found out how to complete the EHUP. Here's a hint: You can move smoke rings and make them last longer by moving into them. Good luck.

Finally got it to work although the rain effects did slow me down more than with the other chapters. But what's been said about the game has been said. All I can add after staring at the last image is: nice Jack has both a PSone and a Gamecube.

Wow that was really challenging! Great work and an awesome story :) The *only* gripe I'd have is that you should pop up some of the story before you exit the screen. There were a couple of points as I ran to the next level that they started speaking as I was exiting. Other than that excellent :) Oh and the ending screen being a box of cigarettes was a nice touch ^^

This is the first game on Kongregate that I've actually really enjoyed the dialogue. I've played MANY games on this site and given them all a fair chance but the ambient music and feeling of the game go really well with the story. I'm really enjoying it.

"It's not about optimism or pessimism. There will always be good things, and there will always be bad things. You reach The Meadow when both are acceptable." 5/5 and favorited.

the way that last level mirrored the last with Kathryn in CoM...is so...damn...heartbreaking ;_; (was I the only person who hated his guts after that?)

To solve the EHUP, blow a ring directly at the switch and then run after it; you'll bump it and give it the extra speed necessary to reach the switch. =D

It's nice that, for once, one of these games wasn't all "SUICIDE!!! HOMOCIDE!!! GRRRAAAAHHH!!!" There were hints, and possibilities, but for the most part it's left to us to determine what really happened. I like that. I also can't deny that this developer's games always come with fantastic gameplay in themselves. Hear that, philosophical game developers everywhere? Your game doesn't have to SUCK just because it's art. You can actually make it good, like this one. Anyway, 5/5, needless to say.

It's sad to think that, after just one day of forgetting about Kathryn, he's doomed to remember his story forever, and in the end, he never sees a soul again. Great game. 5/5

Yes! I played this game the day it came out...so glad to see it here!
Anyways - this game is amazing. Just like it's sequel, this game makes one think. I love how in the last levels it fully ties together with Company of Myself. I mean, I knew what was going to happen in the last level, but seriously - even that didn't prevent me from going 'Wow...' as it all came together. Bravo! Well done! And many other awards wished to you!

I was excited when I saw that this was a prequel to The Company of Myself and am glad I played through. Some tough areas but nothing you could get stuck on for too long. The last area made my gut wrench as I recognized it right off the bat and knew what was coming. Great work.

Wait wait wait. Did I just see a delivery truck? that said EdFex? Oh well, I'll just have to play the game again, just because it was that good :-P

This and The Company of Myself are the best two flash games I've ever played. Their mechanics are totally different but they both force you to think, hence giving you a high level of satisfaction when you figure out the solution, and they both have stellar stories. I had to cheat with a walkthrough for the last level of Company of Myself, I beat Fixation without cheating, as such Id say CoM is a tad harder but it's close. They both stumped me at times.

This makes me so sad...Upon reaching chapter 4, all the effects from the rain are causing my comp to slow down considerably. Making it very difficult to time the smoke ring...No options to turn down/disable the effects means I can't finish the game.

I love this game and The Company of Myself. But the ending feels incongruous, since he had valued Kathryn so much in Company of Myself.

Beautiful, developer is an absolute genius, the game was so sophisticated, so well thought out, it's a work of art. The game is a perfect blend of intelligent puzzles that really challenge you, and story that makes you clench your fist, laugh, and cry at the same time. Such a great game, I love it it is my absolute favourite.

The Company of Myself was extremely sad but after playing this one... Fixation destroyed me. And now TCOM is even sadder... Too many feels...

I just played Company of Myself, but the ending still just-arhg!
My father works in a state psychiatric ward; the residents there are all people deemed too dangerous to themselves and/or to others, like Jack. (spoilers! well, if you played the first one you'd know anyway) A lot of them you'd have no idea why they're there, and in fact, many of them don't. He didn't murder her-no, he found her, dead. So he did what he could-he gave her a funeral, one that he could do, and buried her. That's what happened. At least, what he thinks happened.

Oh my god.
The moment the backyard was mentioned I knew what was going to happen.
But for some reason I still felt emotional when it did.
I connect with this game on so many levels. Thank you, 2DARRAY, you have managed to create the only thing in my life that makes me truly happy. It reminds me that I can still feel emotion. Thank you, so much.
