Clever? Definitely. Good game? Absolutely. Melancholy? Very. Tears? Why??
This story is about a man who fell into infinite abyss of darkness unto himself after he murdered his wife, for unknown reasons, and his shrink reporting it. The man murdered. His own loving wife. Now he misses her. And you think this is moving. I find it. Very. Very. Disturbing. Renewed my view on mental disabilities. How disturbing they can be. Good game, untasteful ending.

I played this game in 2012 and never finished it. I'm so glad I came back to it and completed it this time! Drop dead amazing...now its on to complete Fixation like I never did back then.

Cute little puzzle story. I thought the ending was unnecessarily dark- so much so that it was almost crass- but it was at least an unexpected twist.

I love this game so much, especially now that I understand the story after playing "Fixation", a prequel of the game here on Kongregate.com It is very touching and depressing and I highly reccomend playing this game along with fixation and really paying attention to the story.

I can't decide what order the games are best played in. If you play Fixation first you sort of get the correct chronological order (of course, it's actually Jacks own constructed version of the past). But TCoM's ending will hit you like punch right in the gut. All the threads come together, but you pay a high price for it. If you play the games in the order they were released in, you will have some questions after the first game, but by ending in Jacks illusion instead of dark reality you have a somewhat more positive outlook. You realise that he has deep issues, but now you understand them better; at least I think so... I think TCoM -> Fixation is a slightly more satisfying progression for me. I relate to Jack, then I push him away, only to relate to him again in the end, despite knowing what he did. Powerful stuff.

As others have pointed out, the charater seems to remember having visited the doctor before because at the end of the end screen (past the tester credits) there is a white message that reads "The shrink leaves, and suddenly I don't even have a person to tell my story to anymore." My guess is that he wants to tell the story again and again because he just can't get it over with.

Always feel good to hang out at the Philosophical tag, and this game enjoys a well deserved highest rating in puzzle category. But seriously, we need a tag to store games that have beautiful and sad storylines and good music, like this one. For those stuck at the two pit levels, try blind jumping while holding right. Eventually you will get a couple of shadows to get across. In the first level (green beam), keep jumping even if already fallen or on the other side, because shadows need to be stacked. In the second level, do not press spacebar to move on to the next shadow until you are confident that the current one would have reached the exit if it had not fallen, because there is a chance that one of your previous shadows can randomly get across, and shadows that reach the exit count.

Realy an awesome game! It's kinda sad, but the way it's written is like a real good book and the musik fits in perfectly!
