for future version: if we could make little outposts around the place and if we fought at some pre-made bases in a challenge mode this game whould be even better a great strategy for free repairs:fight the map how u like, then (u need multiple engineers) leave one enemy at a wall and have 1 engineer there (or more if u have enough) and have some other engineers repair other walls entirely, then after the other walls are at 100% send all engineers to the wall with the one bug,let them repair a little bit (till it flashes between 99 and 100%) then send gunners to that wall and kill bug and you jsut got a free repair :D

If you are about to write a comment on this game containing the words "Starship" and "Troopers", please don't. It has been said before, trust me. And if you don't trust me go back and read through 300 posts of starship Troopery. Besides, only someone living in a cave in Afghanistan would NOT notice this is based on Starship troopers, so why does everyone consider it a witty remark to blurt out "Starship Troopers"??
(Yes, I'm bored, waiting for my engineers to max out.. :-D )

this game has a lot of potential it just needs types of troops and guns and it needs buyable upgrades also fortress building

STAR SHIP TROOPERS, i remeber that one, i was just thinking that the fort looked like the one in the crappy alien bug movie i saw :)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
just get 4 engineer and on 3rd level let 2 bugs survive put one engineer on wall and once maxed do same with other engineer

only thing that really bugged me was how my troops all bunched together on two or three walls at the start of the wave. i would either like for them to hold their positions from the last wave, or have a small time at the start to organize them. 3/5 for that and that its a little slow, but overall very good

Finally! A game from my fav movie of all time - STAR SHIP TROOPERS. "YOU WANNA LIVE FOREVER?!!" "HU HA!" Oh man I wanna cry...

Gets a bit slow but still a great game. The UI could use some work - switching zoom levels is annoying. Telling units to move to a wall already occupied with soldiers is annoying since you often select the soldiers there instead. The shortcuts for selecting soldiers on a wall should be in a arrow-key layout (eg. IJKL).

@XaeroDegreaz
Exactly. A scouting party isn't there to hold, they are there to find what needs to be hold. That's where your explanation fails.
But anyways, it's a game, and a free one, and above that all, this issue is really nothing.

really easy way to get your fortress to the unbeatable stage, (not that its that hard anyway) hire an engineer, place on a wall where you let a single enemy survive, let the enemy atk, and the engineer repair until he's maxed out/ desired lvl, repeat three more times so you can have a maxed engineer on each wall... profit

man glitch like BIG glitch,
okay so i get to wave like five or six right and the game it says lvl one with the map open and the fortress button thing open and all that crap and i cant do anything :( please fix it

TIPS: (on Emplacements)
Only get emplacements after your finished with maxing out your squad cap; as they are EXPENSIVE. and aren't as worthwhile as the troops. this doesn't mean don't get them, it just means take your time in getting them. one mortar will help a lot while the machine guns will keep the skies clear of flies and queens flies; allowing your Riflemen to fire at the bugs on the ground, most probable hugging the walls. Diagonal placement of similar emplacements will allow for maximum coverage for each type.

TIPS: Heavies are VITAL they are the only things capable of taking out those carrier bugs. Riflemen are also vital; but one rule applies with them; get them EARLY (more levels=more damage) and get LOTS of them. Engineers are the unsung heroes of this game the same rule of getting them EARLY applies here too as if you have 3 level 4 engineers it negates the need to have 1 more; as they repair 2% of wall every time they fire their welders; allowing 1 extra heavy or riflemen. Most common formations (thanks to t0mmppa) 10/4/4 or 12/3/3. i prefer the 12/3/3 combo myself as it allows more firepower to bear on those times when them bugs are close range; which happens A LOT no matter how much long range firepower you have. anything that fits you is fine. but have less than 3 or 2 Engineers and your just asking for a collapse of a wall or tower mid-wave.
P.S this is just on troops; for Emplacements tips see next post

Good game, like JoFlo; it does become a bit repetitive. More classes and upgrades for the fort or placement of traps would be much welcomed; Variety is the spice of life. Also have a different valor point earning system; cause it really unfair to give 2 valor points per enemy as those freaking giants are much harder to kill than the common fodder they normal give. And like everyone said have something to balance the issue of lack of firepower at close range; cause nothing but the lowly rifleman can shoot when they are right up against the wall; and frankly unless you got a whole horde of level for guys; 2 or more giant bugs will rip down those steel towers and walls. maybe a specialized close range unit like flamers or something.
P.S. I have a second post on Tips... it was too long and they didn't allow me to post it all in one go...

I think it is a good game, but becomes very repetitive. Maybe adding more classes, different fortresses (such a shape or number of walls) after 3-5 waves, or something like that would make it even better.

Heavy infantry is completely useless when guys are right up against your wall?? What am I paying these buttholes for? It's so goddamn annoying. Got to level 32 or so, one of those scorpion dicks runs in close, my idiots can't do anything about it, and I loose a tower with a level 4 mortar on top. Oopsie! This game does not seem to be very well planned out for the last levels. You could have told me somewhere about this close range weakness maybe somewhere in the help. Thanks a lot. Not worth playing again anyways.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@Eric: Heavy infantry becomes more important later in the game, when mortars can clear the hordes from your walls and machine guns take out the aerial threats, then you need the bazookas for the bombers & carriers. 10/4/4 or 9/4/5 works better than 12/4/2 or 13/4/1 at that point. Also, if you put your heavies to the far right or far left, they can shoot the critters bashing the opposite side tower on that wall.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
heavy gunners aren't very useful: they can't hit flying enemies, they can't close enemies (attacking the wall), and they take a long time to reload...BUT they are almost essential for dealing with "carrier" bugs (i think that's what they are called) which stand back and send out endless numbers of small bugs! so i think 1 or 2 heavys and 12 or 13 gunners would be best (and 4 repairmen)

I see people asking questions like "There is a transport ship, so why can't they evacuate?".
Read the game details, it says that they are a scouting party. They are there to kick some ass.
Complaining about the plot in this game is tantamount to complaining about bad acting in Kung-fu movies. No one gives a poo. Play the game.
If you could freely evac your squad, would you really be playing the game? Go play a Pokemon game if you're so die-hard for a plot.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
i think the reason you need to pay for things is because the troopers are mercinaries.think about it. have you seen the transport that brings them thier supplies? if you ask me,that screams non-standard.

To save up cash on repairs later and score more points earlier, get two or three engineers, then leave one bug alive in a couple walls, removing your soldiers. This prevents the "day" from ending, and your engineers can keep repairing the walls/towers the bugs are eating. They will level up a lot, and this will give you more points and make them repair more in later levels. Will take some time though, but worth it

if you read they say there are some sort of precouis minerals on the planet they want maybe thats why they have not left

oh, by trick I meant a strategy, it involves with a little breath space that this game provides you in order to succeed.

Finished the entire game all 40 waves. In fact, there is a trick and if you find it out, 40 waves wasn't bad at all. There certainly need improvements, but I love just as it is, nothing fancy but strategy only. Great Game!!

Was pretty good, but later in the game the troops started firing on the bugs farther back instead of the ones already attacking the fort. It would be nice if the view was pulled back just a bit so that the surronding area was easier to see, but not as far as zoom out does. Also it is hard to move troops from one area to another as selecting them and then selecting where they go sometimes selects other troops instead (more so as you get more troops). Overall a nice game, just needs some polishing done.
