Description

Sound of Life is more an experimental toy than a real video game. I’ve always wondered what would happen if a Conway’s Game of Life was mixed with a tone matrix. Now I know… Self evolving melodies !

You should read a bit about the Game of Life if you really want to explore this toy. Here’s a wikipedia link for you.

It can sounds nice… or awefully bad. Be creative, find a good life source !

How to Play

Draw an initial life generation on the matrix, and press Play to see it evolves. If the sound becomes saturated/distorted, lower the Delay button.

Developer Updates

Jun 1, 2011 8:13am

Due to popular request (4 people, uhuh), a wav recorder has been added ! You can’t start the recorder if the board is empty, and due to some flashplayer limitations, the file can’t be larger than 100MB (approximatively 10 minutes long).

Add a comment if you have any other suggestions !

i've already seen a MIDI controller based on Conway's Game of Life, so unfortunately this isn't as original as it could be. 3/5 for execution, though.

The concept is wonderful. Mixing music and existing great game concepts together works well! People just don't seem to understand the beauty, what a shame.

I should be able to add an export option (wav or mp3) if people are interested.
