Hey, you see those guys standing around over there, minding their own business? Why don't you go over and murder a bunch of them for me?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
In the start of the game... i'm suprised that any faction would give a guy in his underwear that randomly talks to them a quest...

Last mercenaries quest giver: "Kill 30 red cloak guards to defeat the merchants forever."
Me: "But I just killed 350 of them just to become your ally -_-"

The friend/foe dynamic is not that bad. However, getting the Merchants to "Ally" status is just annoying. You only have a grand total of 6 quests from them, and they start with a lower status than your opening side/class. The worst part is, the final quest doesn't actually open until you GET to Ally status, apparently (I'm at 2000+ and the quest giver still talks to me like I murdered his dog). So now, all I can do is stand around and repeatedly take out Mercenaries at +5 to my status until I finally hit 3000. It's a good game, but this one thing makes it really annoying. It makes it feel like you have to over-grind to get the quest and the achievement.

accidentally sold my bow, not realizing that I wasn't high enough level to use my new one. Nobody sells bows.... The game is literally over for me now.

For those who wondered how to "complete the game", after completing the fourth heartstone quest, go to your side's camp near the fourth cave, you will receive a new quest to beat the final boss. Kill the boss to complete the game.

By the time I had finished all the Mercenaries quests that I could get up to that point, I only had 1948/3000 reputation, so I needed 1052 rep just to be able to get up to Ally status in order to get the last quest. The only way I could do that is to just keep killing Merchant Guild enemies again and again and again only getting 5 rep per enemy even for the most powerful ones, meaning I needed to defeat a total of 211 of the most powerful enemies just to be able to get up to Ally status, and then when I had finally gotten up to Ally status and got the last quest... I had to defeat another 30 of the same type of enemies. REALLY? This was the most boring, grindy part of any game I've ever played, and I've played a lot of games. Evidently, the developer didn't test this game properly, if at all. I know that this is summed up perfectly in odomaster's comment, but it's such a big issue, I felt I had to comment on it myself.

If you've already beaten the "final" black boss and you don't get the hard badge, here's why: That's not the final boss. You have to complete one more quest, which is located in the north alliance camp near the red castle for those who had chosen the alliance and in the east shadow runner's camp near the red castle.
The real final boss is on the north-west, between the two rivers. You'll probably need around lvl 35 to beat him.

for those of you who are confused about the merchants hating you even tho youre doing their missions, its cuz there are 2 merchants in every city, one is a merchants guild guy and one is a merc guild trader, you can tell by their emblem that pops up in their speech bubble while you try to talk to them, to get all armor and weapons possible then don't do either of their missions until you get to the last town and buy what you wanted already

I'm surprised that there wasn't a new game/special occasion, for the 300th Kongpanion! (Excluding Joyce from Kartridge of course!)

the reason why i like this games is not the abilities or the badges or the graphics, but they are good :P, but what really makes me come back and play it every time is because of the fact that you have the freedom to choose your enemies and allies, not get chosen with them by a computer or pre-made settings, you can switch anythime, and thts why i am going to give it 5/5.

So i have to farm both the alliance and the merchant faction till i get them both to allied so I can do the last quest for both???
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It woulld be cool if you got a check mark on the map when you completed the quest in the area... so you know if you didnt skip any quests...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
To complete the game after assembling the heartstone, you need to go to the camp of the Alliance or Shadow Runners (whichever you're allied with) in the final area where you haven't received a quest yet. They will give you the final quest.

Although getting the merchants/mercenaries to ally status takes alot of grinding, you get a decent amount of potions/xp/powerful armor that I think really makes up for it. How else would you get level 30 unless you grind?

I would appreciate being spawned in the town where I either saved for the last time or the one closest to where I am for the moment. It gets a little bit annoying having to walk from the town in the lower-right corner. And please, do something about the merchant faction, I am sure that I'm not the only one that finds it annoying having to grind for like 4-5 points per kill. Except that, and some other minor things, I kinda liked this game.

Way too much grinding is needed for reputation.
After all quests are done I still needed to kill more than 500 enemies to get my ally-level reputations. :/

For anyone struggling because of the last batch as warrior because of mercenary reputation. Instead of Killing Red Cloaks, who stun you and make the fighting tedious, Kill Waterdancers instead (Mechants West if the Last Castle, over the river). Theyre easy to kill, they still give +4 reputation, they don't stun you and they're all melee-fighters so you won't have to run around so much. :)

The best part about this game is the quest descriptions. "Hey so ummm, there's these sword people who keep bragging about how strong they are at the bar. Can you go kill them until one of them drops a specific sword? Thanks."

Merchant Guild: My task is vital to our cause. I won't share it with the likes of you!
(300 kills later)
Me: Okay, I killed 300 Sellswords and my reputation is 3000 now, so what's this top-secret plan?
Merchant Guild: Go kill 30 Sellswords. By the way, none of the 300 you killed count because that was before we told you the plan even though the secret plan to end all plans was just to kill 30 the whole time; you really should have come to us sooner, huh?
Me: What the... face-palm

I recommend not getting involved in merchants vs mercenaries until the end of the game else you are locked out of a lot of merchandise to buy
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I've read some of the comments and agree that this is a good game, but the faction gains are horrible. Nobody likes to grind for hours >.>. Perhaps a sequel with more faction and better faction gains/more quests, would be pretty cool in my opinion

Hmm...so according to the merchants, blue gold is extremely valuable...finally, after all these years, I know exactly why that darn Tanooky/raccoon wanted those blue coins so badly in Super Mario Sunshine... ;)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Would have been a nice game if I didn't have to kill 480 enemies just to get my "ally" status with the factions. Do some tuning on the faction reputation gain from quests and it is fine.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
wait...so i am kill on sight with the merchants and not even friendly with the mercenaries? wow...trust hard to build and easy to destroy in this game.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It sucks when you have a heartstone piece on and when you save the game you just click on it and you must refresh the game. Same if you give it to quest giver and you still have the damn piece of this heartstone. Is that a bug? If yes then fix it as fast as possible please -.-
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Beating the game should save it... so you can continue to max out reputations from where you left off, otherwise it sends you to your last save, so remember people, SAVE IT before you beat the game!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
A piece of advice. SAVE before giving in the final quest, because otherwise you will lose all the progress up to the end. And this is not a nice thing, especially when you have to grind in an absurd way to obtain the hard badge. Very nice game 2/5.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Great. I just killed the second boss, but I accidentally left before I picked up the Heartstone piece. Now I need to refresh the page and kill him again. Sigh...
