I like the idea, but the combination of a timer and having to scroll the screen ends up making the game feel like a chore. If it was turn-based the screen-scrolling might've felt less obstructive, and if there wasn't a timer I wouldn't have felt like the other mechanics were there just to aggravate me.

Great concept. keep it up. At first The instruction windows were really helpful but as I proceed they seem a bit redundant.

This REALLY needs a way of discarding unneeded tetris blocks, like the big U shape block when I can't place it anywhere, but I need smaller blocks to fill holes, maybe 5 seconds sacrificed per skipped block?

Protip: You can press P tu pause and unpause during repairing. You can rotate and plan placement of pieces while paused, after you are ready, all you need to do is unpause, left-click to place and pause again. I believe game doesn't even count spent fractions of a second. Abusing this bug, I managed to enclose entire island (except of some tiles at the edges, due to irregularity of pieces) without timer ever progressing past initial 30 seconds. I'm pretty sure you can do the same in combat, but I didn't need it, WSAD to move screen and 1/2/3 to switch weapons was enough.

For those complaining about the time limit on rebuilding, that was in the original Rampart too. And it makes it more challenging.
For those complaining about the screen scrolling, you're right! Dev, please change it to full screen.

i will never forget that time i saw several people playing Rampart who had NO idea what the object was: they fired ALL their shots at the enemy castle! very silly.
and another time where they fired all shots at the enemy cannons...

I actually think the game's really good. But between the upgrade system pushing players to focus on one cannon type and making the biggest ships only vulnerable to type 2 cannons I feel a lot of possible strategy has been unnecessarily cut out. I have no problem with the scrolling but the minimap could be more useful, it doesn't show enemies, wall damage or anything I would actually want a minimap for. Hope you make a Bells n Whistles 1.5 version.

Excellent rampart clone. 5 stars. The difficulty of scrolling around the screen does a great job (perhaps unintentionally) of recreating the chaos of scrolling around with a trackball as on the original.
Looking forward to trying out the multiplayer.
Thanks, I started on a Rampart remake about 5 times before I finally decided I was going to finish one. I really wanted to code something multi-player, and added a few bells and whistles (cannon upgrades). Unfortunately, the scrolling aspect (among other issues) is what most people didn't care for. I usually refer to this game as, "The Game We Don't Speak Of", it was panned pretty hard if you read the comments, lol.

pretty cool game, though it lacks aloot of options which would have made this game much more fun, hope for a sequal with more options and storyline.

Here's a tip for any of you having trouble beating this game. Use the pause button for everything. In battle, pause then line up your shots then unpause and fire away. Rinse and repeat. Building your castle pause get your piece in a suitable position then unpause and place, quickly pause again and repeat. With this method you can easily get an income of 500 by the end of the first build phase. Hope it helps.

scrolling makes aiming excessively difficult, and having to change cannon makes things worse, you don't know what you should watch -- the "tetris" bit is just frustrating, cannot change your pieces, cannot "think" or try a strategy, also the "q" and "e" keys doesn't mean anything on a keyboard other than QWERTY - a poorly thought and poorly implemented game 1/5

It's not a terrible game, the concept is really cool, but the very first levels are just disgustingly hard for someone who has no idea what they're doing. I want to like this game, but after not being able to beat a single level after trying like four or five times... I just really can't.

reminds me of a time i saw 2 stupid people playing Rampart: BOTH of them wasted all their time trying to destroy each other's CASTLES and TOWERS!

Needs 3x longer to lay tetris pieces and pause disabled during that phase. Needs keyboard controls to scroll screen. Needs keyboard controls to fire each gun type directly (rather than simply switching which gun the mouse fires).

Lots of complaints, it seems, but this is actually a very good modernization of a great game. My only complaint is that the scrolling around the screen is a real chore... I would have perferred just a smaller display.

Truly obnoxious how short the time for rebuilding is especially since the pieces are random and it ends the game to not have completely enclosed your area. Too much scrolling is required while in firing mode. Having the different size cannon not be linked makes it nearly pointless to diversify (takes too long to switch between them). There's potential here, but it's not real playable as is. Disappointing after the genius that is Talesworth Adventure.

Quite a disappointment, you are not only forced to use the blocks the game gives you, but you can not delete Cannons at the same time, I have failed many times because of this flaw.
Another thing: The game really doesn't have much reason to play, there is no story beyond a scroll on the first page. I can see why several people hate this game.

pathetic wat happened to talesworth arena death watch? i mean that way beta than this groin kick has funny noise and i done game with all 3

A preview of which level is which from the map screen would be nice, as would mouse scrolling. Me realising you could use WASD for scrolling instead of the arrow keys was useful too :P

I like this game but a few things keep it from being better.
a) the screen area is too small
b) the impromptu tetris mechanic is annoying
c) it's too easy to exploit the pause mechanic

The one player game was pretty easy for a die hard Ramparts fan like me. The levels go a bit samey... they could do with being much larger with more towers on them, I often had loads of time to waste after I'd finished repairing my castle. Still, this is a great implementation. Hopefully I'll get the chance to give multiplayer a go. Any takers?

this game is actually very terrible.... well for single player it is.... every time i hve a castle fortified it says i haven't and i spend the whole time looking for the tiny gap or corner or something stupid like that.... 2/5 so far

Cool, Ramparts! It's taking me a while to get used to all the keys (I wish you could rotate with the mouse wheel!) but I can see myself playing this through to the end.
