For everyone wondering how to get lots of big diamonds, here's how.
1. Max out the mech mole upgrades
2. Find a patch of several large diamonds and then travel sideways. You'll end up hitting identical patches because of how the game spawns gems.
3. Keep traveling sideways and just use the mech mole on everything :D

After three days of trying to get the hard badge, I figured it out. Hopefully when you have 5-7 weeks left, you should be fully upgraded (as someone else said, just leave steering at 50%). Spend the last few weeks trying to get the trophies. Glitch: If you refresh during the ending sequence, it will let you continue to try to finish your last week, but you keep all trophies that you had prior to refreshing. I just got the Ruby and final depth trophy from doing this (in separate tries, but both on the last week). Then, once you have all the trophies, you can refresh one more time to try to just have a really good run if you're only a couple thousand short!

MEDIUM BADGE TIP: If you don't get 25 large diamonds in your first playthrough, to avoid having to replay it and get all the upgrades over again, just refresh before the end cutscene. It'll let you play starting from the previous day

tips: go for hull,fuel and nitro's early. when you start making some higher bucks, get the Mole. (crucial for getting good loot) upgrade Radar and Steering among the last. heck, I left Steering at 50%. when you play, rush towards the deep parts to get giant gems. important: GET THE TROPHIES; 2600 depth (use 2x or one nitro from 2400) and the connoiseur trophy = those two are 75,000 worth.

I wanted the Connoisseur Badge gem, so I wrote a short guide on how I did it (game kinda sux btw)
Early game: Focus on 1 Fuel; 2 Drill strength; 3 Hull strength ( get lv 3 turning+lv 2 radar early on)
The key to this game is the mole upgrade, get a level one mole before you max your fuel & other things and make use of it while drilling sideways
You should be able to max all your upgrades with ~7 turns left
End Game Strat, Lv4 Mole essential!
Go to the bottom of the 2nd tier of dirt where you can see large diamonds spawning; make sure to save at least 3 of your nitros for boosting sideways. Travel along the ground and use the mole to grab all the diamonds you can. Since you are on an easier tier of dirt you should move faster but be able to see enough diamonds to complete the challenge & grab them all with your mole. The mole collects any diamond he passes through, so try and click a little bit past the diamond to make sure he runs through it.

Just some quick things I learned after the first few run-throughs: The goal, especially at first but really throughout the game, is to drill deeper and deeper. The grant money bonus at the earliest levels for just drilling straight down is far more substantial than any measly coins you'll find in the upper tiers of soil. To avoid pressure failure you might consider following breach's post to upgrade hull strength in balance with fuel tanks, even though hull strength seems like a stupid thing to have to upgrade at first glance. This works well in tandem with Mech Mole, especially at levels 3 and 4. Ideally you want to use your last nitro boost straight down as you are running out of fuel at the deepest possible depth your hull can stand. To get to 26000 feet and the 'And Beyond' trophy you have to use this technique at a depth between about 2425 and 2500, the last depth being where your maximum hull strength fails.

Some hints for the badge: Focus on fuel, drill and hull and a bit radar in the beginning. Get the mole 2 as soon as you can. Mole 3/4 can destroy small/large rocks blocking your way. Don't waste nitro in upper areas. If you become too slow, stay higher and go horizontally. You can reach 2600ft (trophy) by using nitro at 2500ft. Good luck!

Ending 5. Ignore collectors trophies focus upgrades (primarily drill, hull, fuel) getting as deep as you can to the big diamonds, an occasional nitro, steering and radar upgrade will help you along the way. With 7 weeks, hopefully sooner, you should have maxed everything except maybe steering, so get down to around 2000 feet right along the final change in earth density then strafe laterally and farm those diamonds with the mech mole for the final weeks. You should make at least 30k per dive and the connoisseur badge while you're at it. Save your nitros while you dig, try to keep vertical dodging the occasional rock. Constantly send out the mole, prioritize the highest value treasure in the area or send it along a line that hits multiple caches. Good luck!

I GOT IT. People keep asking how the dude gets out of the hole after digging a deep hole, and they also keep asking why he's drilling one day per week. It's because the dude spends the entire week getting out of the hole!

Top rated comments give pretty bad advice and it took me 3 tries to get all badges because i followed them. Here's how to get all badges in 1 game. First off. Coins are definetly worth getting the first few levels. look for stacks of 4-5+ this is will already give you gold equal to the feet distance bonus. How to upgrade is Drill > Fuel > Hull. And save steering and radar for last. Get hull only if you need it. If it doesn't break then don't get more. Nitro is pretty good too so get it quite early. But mole is where you start earning lots. Lvl 2 mole is very good and you will earn ALOT more. To win the game you must get all the trophies (all the highest $). To get distance you save 1 nitro and use at 2400+ distance. To get the gem ones you just go to a level where there are lots of them and then go sideways. Try to get all the trophies once your maxed out and not before. Following this will get you 300k+ easily.

For those trying to get the connoisseur badge, i recommend fully upgrading the mole and spam click at big diamonds. Fully upgraded boost helps to as you can stay on the lower levels and go sideways using the boost.

368,000. Finally. This was one of the Hard badges that I've tried getting on and off for years. My two tips are; do not underestimate radar. It can be just as important as anything else. It's easy to miss a pile of diamonds right next to you just because you don't see them. Secondly; the trophies are essential. At the very least, you have to get the Connoisseur trophy, it's worth 50,000. The emerald and ruby trophies are also important, but difficult. The depth trophies are easy and help a large amount. For the last one, wait until you reach the limit at about 2500 ft, then just spam all the nitro you have; it ignores pressure so you'll get past the 2600 mark.

Okay, so here's a little tip on how to get the 300k achievement.
First thing that you need to know is that the drill, fuel, and hull are the most important things. Moles at higher upgraded levels can break rocks. Radar is more useful than steering. I raised the drill levels first, from there, I did the fuel and hull. I then bought the mole, from there, I just kept upgrading, went as low as I could to still move somewhat fast, (not sluggishly slow) and use the mole to grab the gems at lower levels. This helped me get 360k at the end, so I hope it works for you guys.

Upgrade fuel tanks and hull strength the most, choose depending on your last run. If you lost because you ran out of fuel, choose the former and vice versa. But if you do not have enough money sometimes to buy fuel tanks, buy drill strength instead. Once you reach the area where rocks start coming, you should get some steering wheel upgrades, and as soon as you go to the ruby areas buy a small bunch of radar power upgrades. Buy nitro boosts if your pressure is quite a bit extra when you lost. Do not try to buy anything unnecessary for the time being if you have extra money. Get mech mole as soon as possible as well as its upgrades. In the runs, just try to get as many riches as possible and try to go down. Once you get the 'And Beyond' award, try to get the Connoisseur award by going to the area where the final music just starts and go right (advisable to change controls to inverse when moving right) and get those diamonds. Once you do that, get the preceding award and so on.

For those angry because the fully upgraded hull gives out at 2500 feet and you want to get to 2600: Simply use a nitro right before 2500 feet (around 2450 should be good). This will shoot you to 2600 feet, because the hull doesn't give out during nitro.
