Just wondering, is there anything preventing me from just going behind the tapestry and opening the door? Cutting it down the middle seems a tiny bit extreme.

At the end (after the 'malum in se' bit), it goes black for a while. This is part of the game; it's not crashed or anything. Put the sound on (or press 2) and wait for a bit; it'll give you the achievement.
