As per all the other suggestions: Please give us some counter during the level to complete side goals, or an option to restart the level after you complete it. As a personal touch, I'd say have the goals be displayed per floor after you pick up the map.

Good game. Could really use save points (beginning/end of level/etc.) and a counter for stuff you're trying to collect: monster kills, coins, diary entries, map, t-shirt.

Great game. I felt like the bosses were at just the right difficulty level, and there was a very smooth, clean progression in difficulty as you progress through the game. The journal entries were a very nice touch.

Occasionally you run across a gem of a game that doesn't presume to be any more than what it is and excels in that way. This game is that gem for me today.
Well done, sir.

This would be rated much higher from me if you could select previously beaten levels or have a restart option to redo a level when you miss something. It's completely ridiculous to have bonus goals to achieve that you can't see exist until after you beat a level and you can't redo a level so you have to restart the ENTIRE GAME and redo everything to get the achievements. That's just not fun.

That was a pretty enjoyable romp. I would definitely like to be able to replay levels and have a completion counter so I don't miss things, and I sometimes felt like the effects of the upgrades were not the most noticeable (but gun upgrades definitely did numbers on the bosses, by golly). I also sometimes felt like the difference between just turning in a direction and moving in a direction wasn't tight enough to where I could always just turn or always move. I'm really looking forward to any kind of sequel you might do, though.

And 6) When monsters kill themselves, it counts towards your kills, thus preventing the "Beat game w/ no kills" medal.

There are a lot of annoying aspects to this game - how the sorcerers can zap you with lightning before you can even see them, how certain enemies seem to pace between two squares until you move, how the grid style movement is awkward, etc... - but in the end it's a pretty fun game. Being able to replay levels would be a big improvement. I'm somewhat annoyed that I didn't get to read the last notebook page as I got too close to the end-of-game trigger before I could touch it. Anyways, it was enjoyable and the difficulty was spot on for a casual game. 4/5

PRO TIP: Upgrading life fills your life bar, so I recommend only to upgrade health once to withstand zombie attacks and upgrade health only if you are about to die.

Here's a tip.
If you commit suicide at the beginning of the level, you can see how many coins are in the level, without any penalty to yourself.

nice, funny, but the waiting time after lvls is annoying, also you must make help panel function like a pause, i was killed while the help panel was on (maybe upgrade panel too, didnt check it)

1) Tell us how many monsters, coins, pages, etc. are in each level, so I don't leave a level without getting everything. 2) Monster AI needs tweaking. 3) Tell me what level I'm on. That would be useful. 4) The ability to replay levels, even if it's only an unlockable thing after beating the game. 5) Do something about the end-of-level trigger for level 16 so that one can still get the diary page any whatever else if they accidently activate the trigger. Thanks, and great game. Lots of fun. 5/5

what's the point with having a final boss, if u can just get pass him, open the secret wall, save the cheerleader and beat the game?

The "complete game without a kill" achievement should be a impossible badge. + if you agree.
PS needs badges + if you agree.

Easy way to take out First Adventurer: get his attention, run back down to the cannons, stand in the lower left corner (where there are no cannons), and let him shout decidedly empty threats while his own defenses put large, fiery holes in him.

Very fun retro-style game. I enjoy the upgrades and the graphics (I'm a sucker for pixels), and the twist in the story (about the first explorer) was quite interesting and original as far as I'm concerned. As for criticism, a bit on the short side and a bit easy, if you're pro like me. :P I look forward to more adventures from Dear Explorer, perhaps with more weapons and enemy types?

If you're not going for the no-death trophy, just go ahead and die once when you enter a level--you'll be able to see how many coins and monsters are on that level.

Protip: First thing you want to do in a level is die. This will show you what you need to collect as sometimes there isn't a map or journal entry.
