I think you should change the first few waves. If you go for the secret ending you actually get shooting drones BEFORE the alternatve route takes hold. If those guys start firing before me thats NOT friendly.

To unlock the secret mode, don't attack any enemies. After you've dodged the first few waves, it will be triggered automatically.
You might want to beat the game first, though.

Updated with autofire (press F to toggle it), and fixed the issue that was causing the menu tooltips to not align with your mouse position correctly. Please let me know if you find other issues! And if anyone else has the issue where the game hangs when losing focus, please send me any info you can to help me track it down. Thanks for the feedback!

If you did this in 48 hours... what monster can you make in 1 month? 2?
I wonder what would happen if you worked for a game for a year?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
how many minutes does it take before you get the secret path? I've waited almost 50 sec without anything happening despite not shooting. does that also mean I can't accidentally hit anything during that time?

Moral of the story: aliens may not be able to translate your message of peace before it's too late, so to make the message perfectly clear, refrain from sending fleets of attacking ships at them.

---------SPOILER---------------------
These guys aren't friendly at all, they're attacking repeatedly for minutes on end with giant cannons and suicide bombing me. They were actively trying to kill me for a very long period of time while I tried to run and dodge them. I don't feel bad about killing them, their message was obviously a decoy to slaughter the player's people.

I know this is a Ludum Dare game so this isn't directed at this specifically, but why is it that I still have yet to see a space-battle game that even comes closes to Azul Baronis in all the years since I first played it?

Wow what a simple game... yet the story is beautiful. Why can't more games implement storylines with a twist. Now I feel like every game I play I guess the ending twist because its not exactly original or it is just so dry that its a 50-50 guess on the ending. I just think that if the ending is going to be handed to you, at least make it beautiful like this.

I had a laugh when I went to look at Ludum Dare 25's theme after playing this game. It fits a bit with how I felt at the end (even though their peaceful defensive drones fail hard).

Can you add more upgrades at very high cost for people that are not good at this game? I want to see the true ending but my skills are too low.

I wonder how they tell that a game was made in under 24 hours. How do they know you didnt have logic, sprites, animations, etc already made?
Mostly an honor system. But a lot of people create timelapses of their screen over the 48 hours and make it into a video (which is really cool to watch a year later). From The Black's is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-FQKtNnWhU

I think some people here think too realistic and downrate it for that reason. + The decoded message says the automated drones were sent up front and since they don't recognise you as their species and they attack. Great game but the ending made me a little sad at first. D:

I don't believe it. I mean I actually do not believe that they came in peace. Like, at the start, I was thinking, "Oh, they probably do," but as the game went on I thought more and more, no peaceful fleet would act like this. You don't send a message, then move in with your "defensive drones" poised to strike before you get a response. So no, I don't buy that twist ending. I think it was a ruse by a hostile force that utterly failed.

"Don't fire, they may be peaceful." "They're not ramming us, they're trying to give us nuclear-powered hugs." "Those are peace guns, firing depleted uranium floral arrangements. You know what, just open fire, I'm pretty sure they're trying to kill us."

I think I'm supposed to say what I twist, and I admit I was slightly shocked, but the longer the NASA guy went on, the less dramatic it became. In other words, you should cut the ending message a little shorter, or make it change a little.

I've gotten an issue twice now where the game will "double pause". The only way to be able to resume playing the game is to refresh the entire page. First was during the text after defeating the boss, and the second was just now in the middle of gameplay. About all the information I can give on it.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
hmmm i wonder what that boss was. i mean, it couldn't have had anything to do with that earth shi- omg omg omg omg omg what have they done
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Click outside of the game and it says "PAUSED click to focus." Half the time when I click on the screen it starts back up. Half the time it does nothing and I have to refresh the page. Still a fun little game though.

Well made, not particularily inovative, but in today's storm of MMOs, etc., this is a refreshing return to what I remember flash games being about :)

Soo... an unknown fleet comes hoping that they can borrow our fuel or whatever, they start shooting even if you decide to be peacefull, and after they find out you're peacefull, they will send more ships with even bigger guns ( even if you don't start randomly teleporting them )
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
This is why you use UNencrypted messages when hailing an unknown ship, then wait a respectful distance away until they reply.

I think I've fixed the issue with the game pausing and you being unable to unpause it. Please let me know if you continue to see it happening (make sure to force refresh to get the latest version). Special thanks to Zoen for helping track down the issue!
