i've been attacking like normal for the whole game with no problem, then, somehow, on like the second to last push, an entire squad blows up, because somebody managed to step on a landline right outside OUR trench, A landmine that somehow avoided blowing up after like 25 squads had already ran over it

"Sir, Jameson, Alexander, and Robinson are all dead!"
"Get your shit together Tyrone, it's just a tank!"
"Alright, I'll get it!"
*Boom!*
"Well that didn't work, you, soldier go kill that tank!"
"Sir, Tyrone already destroyed it!"
"Oh... it's tricky to get used to that..."

man this game is good but has sort of no logic likemon i get a british victory and the soldier celebrate while under allied or enemy artillery

Hmm... I sent the last two wounded riflemen from a unit out to capture the enemy ground. One gets blown up, but the other just runs across and captures the enemy ground and they give up even as their last tank rolls out... 'Cause frikk logic.

We should be able to make them fall back to a previous trench. Otherwise I have infantry getting demolished by tanks while I have some perfectly healthy assault squads in the trench behind them.

"sees a german troop run through my troops and hover over trenches"
meh its just 1 guy, and i have like 3 rifle men 1 MG and 2 assault teams.
"Magical single german soldier passes through everything"

I see comments about how there troops went out to get gunned down , gassed and blown up but thats was exaxtly what happend in ww1 if the generals gave the order you would climb out and attack and most deserters where shot. You cant realy imagine the terror of running to your death seeing your friends and family die aswell as people you may not of known well and not being able to stop it as retreating you get shot for cowardice and discraces and disowned from your family.
ps i know this may be a bit grim but its the truth.

Generals log: the Great war is intense. It is 1917 and I'm pretty sure we should have won the war by now...
Note to self: Never hire soldiers whose experience includes being in a camouflage uniform commercial. Also stop buying ammunition from that new "Rubber bullets" store.

alright this song is pretty weird so if you dont like kinda depressing stuff don't read this! final warning to turn back! lets begin. 3 snipers in a trench, pop goes ones head. 2 snipers in a trench, BOOM there goes his legs!, 1 sniper in a trench, BOOM goes his gun. 0 snipers in the trench...

What is interesting is you can test, (strategies) like using only snipers with common foot soldiers & double speed. It works!

"General, we are half way into the battle field, there is gas, mines, machine gunners, and hell up ahead, should we turn back?" "NO, YOU WILL GETS UR BUTTS ACROSS THE BATTLE FIELD, AND SHOVE THOSE GERMANS BACK TO WHERE THE WHERE, NOWHERE!" "SIR YES SIR" *army dies, looks down upon general as they ascend to heaven* "Damn... I knew I should've told them to retreat..."

I actually liked this more than the sequel for the first eight missions, but the ninth one rides hard into AI-is-a-cheating-bastard territory. The awkwardness of the morale system isn't so noticeable until then. You can be inches from winning, but your men will surrender for essentially no reason while the Germans seem impervious to any sort of discouragement whatsoever. Destroy all of their tanks you want; they won't care. Lose one of yours, and your men just start crying and throw in the towel right there. I'm fine with that. War is hell. The first world war absolutely devastated everyone involved. But come on, man, it should work both ways, here.

*my tank is destroyed* morale drops by 50% *Two german tanks go down* german morale drops by 10%
9/11 this game gave me a**cancer and autism -IGN

This game does a very good job of showing the ruthless calculus of war. All those soldiers that you just deployed to the frontlines, their lives are now expendable. Need to make room for a trench? No problem! Just kick one unit out so they can go forth to be ripped to shreds by German bullets and artillery. In war, the precious life of a soldier is in his/her commander's hands, and their lives are nothing more than a means to an end.

Enemy just surrendered on level 5 because they sent 3 infantry units out of a trench and they all immediately died to their own mortar hit... possibly the funniest thing I've seen this week
