Here's data from my little experiment. I started by buying all upgrades except the "Money" upgrade. I reached the last boss on day 5. Here's the timeline from there, with the day and how much cash I obtained that day:
DAY5: 2450,
DAY6: 2450,
DAY7: 2450,
Bought money upgrade 1
DAY8: 2695,
Bought money upgrade 2
DAY9: 2940,
Bought money upgrade 3
DAY10: 3185,
Bought money upgrade 4
DAY11: 3430,
Bought money upgrade 5
DAY12: 3675
Each upgrade gave 10% more money. So each upgrade gives a max of $245 more per day, if you reach all the bosses and get all the money from them. The 4th upgrade costs $450, so it would take at least 2 days for it to pay for itself. The 3rd upgrade, at $180, might be able to pay for itself, but chances are you could find something better to spend that on. But first two upgrades are pretty decent.

Boss Slayer has been my coffee break game lately--thank you Awoke! But I wondered about the money upgrade, and tested it. Each level gives 10% more money than if you had no upgrades. Fully upgrading gives you 150% money. But the upgrades get more expensive... I think you'd actually be better off putting the money into better weapons or more health. The equipment is actually a better return on investment, since it lets you fight more difficult enemies and pick up more money that way. The first 2 or 3 money upgrades could be worthwhile by day 3 or so, if you can't afford weapon/health upgrades. But the last two upgrades are so expensive that together it will take a minimum of 6 days (5.1) for them to pay for themselves. The game isn't long enough to make them worthwhile.

after a while I'd kinda want an option to turn off my own bullets. maybe it's my inexperience with bullet hell games but I found my own bullets were the most distracting thing on the screen.

It took me so many tries to beat it on day 4, but after figuring out some strategies I just managed to beat it on day 3 without many more tries. I'm not even going to try doing it in 1 or 2 days because the ship you start out with is really boring to use on the later bosses. Great game anyway. Thanks for making it. Now that I'm done with it I wish there was a sequal.

This is an amazing game! The bosses were creative, the gameplay was solid and it was an all round fun time playing. Would LOVE to see a sequel perhaps more bosses, upgrades maybe different types of weapons as well but most importantly, MORE EPIC MUSIC!

good game, like stated before, the ending was a bit... flat. the unique gameplay was nice to see as each boss took a different approach to beating. a solid 4/5 on this game good work!

Really nice game overall, good work. The fact that the humanity sent a single fighter with some coffee money to face alien capital ships that are firing ion cannons like machine guns and threatening the entire earth, somehow worried me a little..

victory on my 3rd day after not playing in a while (i already had the badge from earlier). I know, 3 full days?! I'm bad at dodging IMo, but what do you think?

I am probably one of the most reckless pilots... But this game has that familiar feeling to it - that one arcade game you wont stop playing until you've beaten it. I honestly thought I died at the final boss, too busy trying to dodge enemy fire and couldn't 'risk' checking how many lives I had left. But victory on the 12th day, I can breath again

This is a pretty lame bullet hell, to be honest. There are a bunch of projectiles that unpredictably shoot tiny projectiles that are the exact same color as your ship, and you can't move your ship fast enough. So the game is entirely impossible until you get the final "add bullet" upgrade, at which point you can just tank the entire game without any effort.

Would be good but crashed twice around boss 7. Wouldn't be an issue, but due to a lack of a save feature, the game is essentially impossible.

Phew, managed to make it in 11 days with one day to spare. Then I just realized that the BotD didn't have a difficulty restriction. Darn it!

One problem: I actually prefer keyboard control to mouse control in games where the ship has a maximum speed (because it feels kind of laggy to me). However, I went with mouse controls because the game said "recommended". After my first run, I tried to go back and change the control scheme, but I couldn't change it without reloading the page and losing my progress :(
