Description
How well do you hold up while distracted? Test yourself in our memory island game!
This game is part of a research project by faculty at Wabash College. For more information about our project, visit our web page at http://www.behaviorgames.com/Kong.php
How to Play
Use arrow keys (or WASD keys) to move. Esc will pause the game.
On each trial, find the the stone cube that is hidden in one of the pedestals placed around the edge of the island.
You'll earn the most points on each trial if you can find the cube on your first try (by checking as few pedestals as possible).
On some trials, you will be given a short string of letters to remember (such as "ZVQ"). Try to remember these letters for the entire trial. Don't write them down, but you can repeat them to yourself while you are looking for the cube. If you remember these letters, you'll get a bonus at the end of the trial!
Developer Updates

-You can press โenterโ to finish a memory entry.
-The ambiguous โQโ has been removed from memory trials.

I don't think that this experiment will give you any useful data. The task is simply way to easy and remembering letters does not distract enough from remembering to turn three pedestals to the left. You should vary the memory task a bit, e.g. by using words, word similar letter combinations and nonsense combinations with varying length. This way you could find out when the trained task has an influence on the memory task. The way you are doing it now (always trained task + 5 letters) brings you absolutely nothing.

UPDATE - 6/1/2011. Thanks for your feedback, and we've uploaded a revised version of the game, that should be about 40% less monotonous :) There are two targets now, rather than one, and if you do well on the game, you'll earn a point bonus and finish the game faster (in less than 75 trials). Let us know if you have any problems, and we'd love to get your feedback on this new version of the game.

Also, feel free to PM me, or send me a message, if you want to know more about how we're using this game. I try not to talk about our hypotheses too much on public forums, just so that people aren't influenced by what I expect to see.

Thanks for giving the game a try! In this version, there is one block that's hidden on the island, but the location is not the same for all people (there are a few random variables across people).
