Size upgrade is useful only with ghost ships, so upgrade health, regen, toughness and boost keeping other things at low level.
I'm on wave 35 and this tactic works perfect.

You can reassign your upgrade points at any time; use this to your advantage. If you are damaged and need to hide and heal underwater, decrease your Size (so you can avoid attacks) and increase your Regen and possibly your Breath, Diving, and Bonus as well. Increase Size, Speed, and Toughness for attacking ships. If you need to attack aliens or get the bird or moon achievements, increase Diving and Boost. Leave one weak ship alive at the end of a level (and increase your Hunger) to give you time to focus on the achievements. Try to get as many achievements as you can early on otherwise the game may get too difficult and you could get stuck on a level.

If you have Regen filled to 13, (that's 3 points from max) then hunger will no longer affect you, it'll make your total health drop to 1 point below max and that's it. This makes surviving a whole lot easier

You should get special bonuses for completing upgrade wheels. For example, being able to breath underwater forever if you complete the Breath wheel or being able to regenerate health even when you're being attacked if you complete the Regeneration wheel.

Damn, this game suddenly turns from a great game to an extremely boring, and repetitive game. By wave 20 i was already invincible(from farming achievements), and from about wave 30 onwards it's just painfully boring to continue, i have every one of the 7 top upgrades maxed out(only missing breath, hunger and bonus) yet the enemies take sooooooo many hits to destroy, it became just annoying, specialy with the ghost ships(95% of the time i take to kill them is trying to find them after they teleport AND trying to find them in time to hit before they teleport again) and the aliens(they fly so high i'm just finding myself randomly jumping with the boost hoping i'll hit them). And the fact that the waves always look the same, by the higher waves i'm now fighting only the same ''tougher'' enemies over and over... this got from a 5/5 to a 3/5...

The whale jumps into space and slams its tail down onto a boat with 2 people in it at terminal velocity. The boat is barely damaged. The whale rams another 2-person boat at what looks like nearly the speed of sound. The boat tilts slightly and someone falls out. I'm not exaggerating, either. It's possible for it to literally happen if you get all upgrades.
