Non-humanoid protagonist - You don't get to see this much, but it's really refreshing when you do. This title really recreates a lovely retro feel in its artwork and gameplay 5/5

I came back here only to find that after nearly 9 years, the developer is finally updating this game, I had hopes, and I glad I stuck with it.

Keeping this comment from Apsy alive: For the 4songs : - 1 Near the start (you need to activate a switch in right side of the same area) - 2 Near the place where you get the wing, you need to destroy a wall with the upgraded spikes - 3 Under the big ancestor statue, still by using the upgraded spikes against the small wall. - 4 After passing the door by activating the 3 crystals, jump into the first pit, then on the left side we can see the entrance for the last song

Spelling error: "I landed on his planet." I think you meant "this." I believe this was the memory snippet when he found his capsule above where the game started. (this was the only spelling error I found, good job!)

I think one of my favorite things about this game is the different key options. I absolutely HATE when I play a game like this and I only have the option they set forth. I've been using WSAD + Enter and it's amazing. Great game! :D
Ps - "purple metallic pterodactylgreyhound mix" made me lmao. xD

Great game, but there were a few annoyances. The game automatically pauses when focus is lost, which is fine, but doesn't unpause when focus is returned, which is particularly silly while in a mouse-driven menu. Unexpected easter eggs can be accidentally dismissed with no way to see them again. The trophy descriptions in the Ancestor Records are incomplete, with no way to review the text you see when you initially receive one (and which usually explains why you've received it). Finally, I found the game intermittently hiccupped, pausing for a second or two. The more entities (like projectiles) that were being created and destroyed, the more frequently it hiccupped. The strange thing is that this seems to have no correlation with either memory or CPU use; the game just takes a break.

There are some slight annoyances, but overall I still give this 5/5. The music is wonderful and truly represents the setting and emotion of the game, and the plot is absolutely brilliant. This is one of the few Kongregate games I really want to see more of.

hmm no badge, I guess having my spaceship blown up and my both snatched by an alien dragon-fly dog, while releasing a vengeful scourge upon the universe wasn't the good ending. I guess "good" ending is subjective.

Very fun little metroid-vania! I like the non-human main character as well, reminds me of the Shadow of the Beast games on the Amiga back in the day. I see it's been a few years since publishing this ChainedLupine, I hope you haven't given up on the expansion from lack of feedback or desire. I'd love to see more of this game. Thank you for creating and sharing it!

Hey Mr. Dev, why can we use "S" to open our stats screen, but not to close it again? It would be just *that* much more convenient than having to go and hit escape! <3

There's a secret tile that reveals some info about the game. Although it seems it can only be triggered once? Can you make it so we can re-trigger the event. I didn't get a chance to read it. lol

This was a very well done and well put together game. It's also one of the first explorative/Metroid type games I finished by myself without help, which sadly is rare with my mind. The story was really well done and fun to follow as well as interesting to listen to. Don't know if the game has yet to continue but I would definitely check it out if it has.

Great game!
Completed it with both endings.
The "back to beginning" button was a big help in order to get the missing gems and memories.
There are still some parts of the background story I don't understand.

Pretty good, all told. The story was compelling, but it was a little abrupt. The internal conflict could have been built up more. Or rather, sooner.

YES! Now these are the type of games I look for on Kongregate!! I'm loving this game so far. So many amazing games... I wish I had time to complete them all..
The graphics are amazing, something I wish to do in the future (retro style). The gameplay is reminiscent of a great NES game, I simply feel that nostalgia while playing it. I'm loving the story and the way its presented to the player. I'm loving the feeling of isolation, but curiosity while playing. My rating gradually increased as I continually played. 5 out of 5.
I hope to collaborate and/or work with you in the future in some way.

This game manages to actually get that retro feel unlike 98% of all these faux-retro games in that it isn't just plain blocky graphics and the music isn't chiptunes trying to pass as "old" music. It reminds me of SNES or Genesis. Good job.

This game has an intense storyline, and that what I enjoyed most. In the good ending, you give the Ancestors a safe planet, but in doing so, you trap youself on Kalevala. In the bad ending, you help the Courier get its revenge, but in doing so, give it complete control, and you have no say over what you can do. It's a electrifying experience, and I didn't regret a thing about it. What should you do? It gives you the freedom of choice. It can be puzzling, yet be fun all the while. Its perfect. All I want now is the extra area that it says, "Coming soon!" I feel like I can't wait. ChainedLupine...I have no more words. You have brought me the best present ever. But take your time in adding in th extra area.

I just learned that Kalevala was the name of a Finnish epic. How similar is the story in this game to that of the poem?

This is a fantastic game. I love platformers and such, and this game just blew me away. The graphics are perfect, and the music really enhances the game. An excellent story. Thank you so much for creating this, and I look forward with great anticipation to the next installment.

STUCK players, hear ye! If you did activate 3 crystals, and the map points you to a blocked wall (rightmost area), and you get the message that you don't have enough active crystals, fear not! Refresh the game and it should be fine. (ESC + Save, just to be safe..)

Best... Pixel... 2D... Game... Ever... ^_^ You have to make more games like this. There is not enough good games on the web -_-

I cannot say anything bad about this, graphics are very beautiful, story is very interesting and it has amazing music. Cant wait for expansion!

Fun fact: After you get double jump, When gliding up the path, when you see a small island on your right, you can glide to it and get a hidden message from the creator(s)!

I'm also a bit surprised beta testers felt so daunted by less linear gameplay. I usually like non-linear exploration; to be honest, it's the main thing that defines a 'Metroidvania' for me. A map is definitely essential, though, even in a small-scale game, since it's very easy to get lost/confused in exploration games. Other suggestion: It would also be nice to save the humourous quips in the trophy text once you acquire them. Perhaps update the trophy page with them? Oh, and in case people don't know, LoK has a TV Tropes page (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/LegendOfKalevala)! Have fun with it.
