My team was screwed we hadn't destroyed any armies and we had but a fourth of our men the obvious choice would have been to retrat and hope our archers were enought to give us a slight advantage but this is 1066 not real war so i taunted them turn after turn.
it started off seeming worthlesss then their strongest army couldnt take being called cowards or beastly traitor so they retreated then one by one they all retreated
the morrale of this story is when you seem like you are going to lose the battle dont be afraid to call the opposition "cowards"

So frustrating when you have two troops to their one and your about to win and they call you a puss wound and everyone runs away.

Ian Holm did the voiceovers!!! Dear me, I was wondering...the narration is of the highest quality. Besides, the gameplay is as intricate as chess, and is one of the most enjoyable I have played. And the artwork is just superb; the slow transition from blue to red at the end was beautiful. And poignant.

I could not be more satisfied with the gameplay of 1066, the choice of your units and unit groupings fit just right, and the enemy uses real world (past world anyway) tactics to fight against me. If you enjoy turn-based strategy games this is on the top. You can also play this game online, but it doesn't work well and I do not recommend the multiplayer. If you like this, I recommend Rebuild 2.

best strategy game i've ever played. 10/10 but why are your troops always stupidly loyal? i killed me entire army once by telling my archers to shoot my troops and then themselves.

Channel4 teach us more English history in this sort of fashion! Heck, maybe even ancient history and the 100 year war! Make a sequel or you will be no better than an OOZING PUSS-WOUND!

One of the best games in it's kind I've ever played and even seen! Great work a sequal would be great! I love history too, this game even made me pass a test because we had to memorise a conversation about what year the duke of Normany conquered England... I knew it in 5 seconds 1066 thanks!

Just to notify everyone, multiplayer servers were taken down because the game was only made as a feature for Channel 4's TV series about 1066.

The formations should really be customizable. It's really hard for me to make complex formations because there's no way to control which units become a part of a formation. There needs to be a feature that lets you pick. Another thing, I type at almost 100 words per minute, and I know a lot of other people can't type half that fast. It would be a lot better if the game was based more on tactical skill and strategy instead of how fast you can type. I think that's the reason the multiplayer isn't even running, not enough people play the game because it's typing-based.

"Norman Knights lose 246 men, annihilating the rest of my 68 hurscals" "Norman Knights Flee" "You ripe-mouthed cur" The rest of the Normans retreat.

I learnt as much as I enjoyed playing this game. Every little detail is delicious, it was really fun to imagine the soldiers yelling things like "low-born orc" while they watch the battle from behind some trees :D

Short but awesome, this game was really well done.
I really love history, and I also love great games; this game had a lot going for me.

After making my entire army Varangian Guard (8 Vanagian troops and then the king's troops), I kept a line of troops up and down to prevent any enemy troops from getting behind mine, and just marched forward. The English kept all their troops in a concentrated group, and had no archers. I was able to out-maneuver them and get my guys on both sides, allowing no escape. They were basically dead when they decided archery wasn't a good thing, because that was all that could have stopped me.

Question...how can seventy archers fire five-hundred arrows in a single volley? Archer power should drop with either troop number, morale, or both. Other than that, great job.

Do the values listed at the team-selection screen list the modifiers for the soldiers you have, or just the orientation of the military doctrine that team uses? In other words, will my Norman knights have the offense value stated, or will it be modified by some type of bonus?
