Shortly: 1066 is one of the best strategic games I've played as a kid.
With little flaws, 1066 manages to show the Viking invasion with historical accuracy, and in a way that is interesting.
With the involvement of keyboard controls and a bit of calculations in your head as well you need to take command of an army, type fast, and make sure they don't spam taunt.
I'm giving this a quick rating of 8/10. I wish the servers were up.

Honestly, I seriously love this strategy game because the way how this game plays out is unique and I still haven't found any strategy game that acts like this one (if you did, I would like to know). Finally, I would also like for other people to play this game as well, but some advice, be a bit patient with the game and try your best to outflank the enemy as much as possible (try not to get "double" or "triple out-flanked", it happened to me while I was playing my own battles).

Wonderfully educational game, great for those planning to be historians, secretaries, generals, or professional trolls.

It is a good game.. and it had vikings in it which made me happy... now they need another one of the spartans, the romans, and the persians.

Great game, can't stop playing the custom battles. A more developed editor would make the game almost perfect - the game system can basically describe any battle in Europe from about the 6th to the 12th century. Add a few units/armies (Avars/Magyars/Saracens/Byzantines, slightly adjust statistics for Standard Units depending on People/Nation), and you've got a universal game. Keep up the good work :)

They should make a lot more sequels, taking place in different time periods and maybe even altering history, depending on the events.

"RAVEN STARVER!" "ILL-BORN RAT!" "SVINAFELL TROLL!" "POT-BELLIED ORC!" *Vikings and Englishmen start crying and running away at the same time*

Oooo, loved it, but missing some things: for instance, lateral atttack is completely gone, mabey the ability to mke longer shield walls, more troop formations, terrain (?), and other things. Would love to see these things in a sequal (perhaps 869, when the danes invaded) + if you agree

"Why all my men runned out the battlefield ?
-6000 bare-chested vickings screamed and insulted us.“
You really think that peasants unprepared to fight will not crap in their pants in this situation ?

I was about to completely destroy an army as the Vikings (high courage stat) when my foe started yelling insults. Within a few rounds, all of my men, including King Harald himself had fled, our 60-something morale having been reduced to 0. Literally just before engaging the final stack in melee. A stack of archers.

I love this game. Includes lots of strategy, and I enjoy how it follows a real storyline (go history!). Fun, gives you a good hour and a half of gameplay, and is enjoyable throughout. 9000/5

Why isn't there a sequel to this near-perfect game? Set in a different time period, a follow-up to 1066 would be AWESOME! Just do not include the typing taunts as a minigame, it kind of ruins the game. 4.5/5
