I love the history and everything but i have to give this a 4 out of 5 instead of a 5, it's so damn hard to play, the wind always is my enemy D:

if you guys think this ship is hard to handle go on a real ship that size and try to sail it you will see the handling on the games ship is alot better then a real ship
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
even with a crapton of handling, handling is bad. Fits the way that actual ships move, but it's anti-fun. Also, some of the missions feel like they're designed just to make you lose, like the "defend the ally ship that sits there and does nothing to defend itself" missions. Another qualm I have is that you have the shot going in order of power, and that as power increases range decreases- In actuality, grape shot was very weak against a ship, but excellent against the crew, and was used to take a ship mostly intact while killing off any crew- often used by boarding parties of pirates. It wasn't strickly musket balls either- Especially when a crew ran low/out of ammo, they'd use whatever is available at hand, and THOSE would certainly have crap range- But actual grape shot, due to how it's fired, actually has relatively decent range-

It's strange how it says 'Multiplayer server unavailable at the moment', and yet, it's been like that for ages?? Any one know why?? It's a good game, I just can't do multiplayer. PLZ rate this so other with the same problem as me can see this.

@Devs: Please fix the intro to be read at the player's own pace. I missed half of most of the paragraphs because it disappeared before I could finish reading. Why bother going to the effort to writing an intro if you're not going to let people have sufficient time to read it? Thanks.

Nice game. I agree with a previous post regarding ship speed. We should be able to control the amount of sail that is 'unfurled" (0-3). 3/5

Pretty good. I agree that customization of the ship itself would be a great improvement. I also think it would be nice if there was a selection of different ships available, that you could select based on your rank and/or buy, e.g.
sloop < corvette < frigate < galleon < man o' war
I like the concept and this is a good kind of strategy game (even if it's filed under 'action') but it needs improvement.

cursedwinds is a horrible game. The AI is the most predicable and meaningless since Space Invaders, and the "boats" merely slide around the screen without regard to wind, current, or even turning radius. It's laughable. Complaining about not being able to upgrade ships in this game is also absurd, since the crew is how you upgrade your ship! Do you want more speed? Buy the guy that gives more speed! More armor? Buy the guy that gives more armor.
All that said, this is best sailing battle game since the original Sid Meier's Pirates, and BSD Sail.

it freezes my browser with higher quality than low, it sucks that i cant change my wepons or you dont give any instructions how to and it also does suck that visibility range depends on the quality. also i dont have a poor computer but it really froze the hell outta my browser

This is good, but it is basically a flash remaking of the naval fighting concept in "Empire: Total War". Pretty much the exact same thing, except free, and in flash.

I agree with bbalboni. Also, It seems to me that the control commands "stack up". For example, when I am starting a turn I try to hold the arrow key for the whole time, but then when I want to stop, it keeps turning like I am still holding the arrow key. This makes it very difficult to control anything.

3rd map on single player arcade ; hangs on spinning watch loading screen. No lockup but the watch spins indefinitely.

Seems good overall, but the handling kind of ruins it for me. I feel like a pinball pilot, not the captain of a ship. The fact that you bounce off of islands doesn't help the pinball feeling. The auto-zooming camera can be pretty annoying as well, as it often leaves me unable to determine how the other ships are oriented with respect to my own ship.

a way i found to get the last loot is to ram the other ship while firing or even to just sideswipe it. It also works well for other loots so you don't have to circle back around.

These things don't move anything like ships would. I especially don't like that there are only two "speeds": full speed and stop. And there's the annoying zoom-in, which happens totally randomly.
All in all, lots of place for improvements.

i'd have to say that this game has a very cool idea, but numerous bugs and the insufficient controls call for a Trafalgar Orgins number 2.....DEFINETELY

1/5 simply because its nearly impossible to move around effectively. Even with a good crew member (+40 maneuverability) the slightest gust of wind sends you flying across the map. It had potential, it really did, but the controls ruined the game.

The small facts at the bottom of the loading screen may have been interesting, but my game loaded to fast to read them all clearly. Also the facts during the level loading screens often aren't readable for the same reason. When hiring people, i enjoyed being able to see a brief background info screen about each one. Playing the tutorials gets you to grips with the slightly awkward turning, however i managed to override this by increasing my crew's handling. As for the rest of it... well got bored so cant fairly rate this out of 5 yet. Good, simple 3d graphics and sensible, maybe even difficult computer AI. only improvement would be to be able to freely change the zoom of the camera, possibly with the mouse wheel. @BrainlessNerd <<<< BULLSHIT.

Could be a very good game, but frankly, the speed control makes no sense. should be more than just full stop and full go. Fix that and you'll have a very good game on your hands. I'll check in again, if it's fixed it can be a 5/5 easily, for now it's 2/5

This game is wonderful, BUT it could use some hellish tuning. The auto-zoom really screws with you. Handling is a bit of a pain, mostly because its near impossible to do any 'tight' turns. I'd say make another, but take the comments here to heart and grind down the problems.

I enjoyed this game. There was a good gameplay, and unique ideas, such as the crewmates. Also, i enjoyed the strategies that this game allows for, and although the steering is hard to master, i couldn't find anoything wrong with it. The idea that different weapons have different ranges, effects and damage was also a good thing to have added, which some game developers leave out. You should try adding upgrades for the ship though.
I do understand why you ship does not completely come to a halt when you are sailing entirely in the opposite direction of the wind, but i do prefer to "tack" my way back and forth if this occurs. Some people have commented that they "cannot turn the auto zoom off" ect, which suggests instead of having a custom right click menu (which is still great, btw) you should have it in an "options" menu which is easy to see. This would also allow for other options for customising or modifying the gameplay, as well as a much easier and noticeable way to do so.

overall quite a reasonable game
however your guns outrange your vission which is bad as this means you can't see your targets. Perhaps you should also add some more random messages.
