Getting the Hard badge is rather easy. What you need to do is buy in bulk tea early on when the price drops to 10 or less. It's easy to amass 500+ tea in the beginning. That means you have lots of time to trade Opium. Later in the game is where you make your Opium money. Early on you need to focus on making good purchases and holding on for great deals.
You'll get a bribe card and you need to save it for a $99 sale of 30 or more crates. The risk must be worth the reward.
Late game when you have 5 ships then you should risk your ships. You won't be able to use all 5 at once and still make high profit. Just like when you risked you bribe card, you risk your ships. Some will get through and make massive profit. Some you will lose. You can lose three ships and still function. Don't worry about losing ships. Worry about making money.

ok, so i just ran into needing to buy 360 crates of tea, in 11 weeks. with each week ~= 1 second, uhhh can't even buy them that fast mashing the buy 30 button. yeah thanks, but i prefer to do the possible. not a bad game, just impossible expectations

Badge of a day seems kinda broken. I was playing and lost on my first try - it updated my progress to 114/150 chests. Then, I played again and despite being very close to winning (is tea was being bought faster, I would win, I lost maybe by 10-15 seconds), I lost. I clicked play again and... my score wasn't updated. I tried to refresh, etc, but it's still missing, despite game telling that I can even lose and still get badge ;-(

Oddly enough, despite the absolute random nature of the prices, and how little control the user has of the quantity and nature of deals or risky ports, I found this game to be a nice balance of tranquility (nice music) and stressful challenge (mashing the BUY button because you can't buy more than 30 at a time). While I agree with many comments below that the BUY button should allow buying more than 30, I still found this game to be very well done, and it felt more balanced than I was originally going to give it credit. 4/5 stars. Thanks for the fun experience.

This is a horrible moment in history. After this game Britain pretty much invades China and strong arms them into giving them tea.

What I would like to see: - The ability to cancel an order I accidentally clicked on before the ship reaches the destination. - Be able to sell ships at any time, not only when poor. - PLEASE be able to buy more tea/opium! The sections should be something like "10, 30, 50, 100" instead of "5, 15, 30" - A 'restart' button on the pause menu would be great! + so the developers will see.

win or lose to get the hard badge? I got 88 million points while 500 tea crates away from the final order... and have never won... so how would I win with a lower score than 80 million?

It's funny how the games says: Can you make your fortune? Well the answer to that is no. You use your profit to buy tea and give it the English. And while they need 600 crates, the buying value is 80, and they just except to still get it?

Ah, by 'stack everything', I mean opium > tea, but get tea whenenever you've tons of silver and it's relatively cheap.

Easier than I though, 13~ on 1st attempt, 97 on second (after reading few comments). I just tried to stack everything, when it was cheap and to make 30-50 crates deals (mainly during middle stage of game). I also had useful excess of tea, which helped me over 3 years. My mistake was spending 12,5k on fees, instead giving boats. I couldn't do anything in last year (very high prices) and ended up with 0 opium and 120 tea (lose). Still... badge.

sees final tea order for first time oh I am doing good. *has no money or opium* crap I will just wait then and see if I scored enough. I won and got the hard badge.... but those moments while waiting for myself to lose... afraid to get just under the required score when you can't do anything...

In the final leg, you basically have to hit the 30 Tea button continuously, otherwise you won't buy fast enough. Alternatively, stockpile team from previous legs.

Too simple (actually the decisions you can take are very few), too random (you can't forecast price trends at any level) and as years progress it becomes too fast and you just click wherever you can. Not really a good manager game.

*Sends ship out for a 56 chest deal at 99/chest in a risky port WITH a bribe card!* ... *Ship gets halfway there* ... *Ship gets three quarters of the way there* ... *BRIBE CARD NO LONGER WORKS HAHA* *SHIP GETS CAUGHT*

I do like to think the game is ironic. The over-puritan Victorian Era, the very Industrial Revolution, as paid with opium money. That's the historical point of the game.
