Anyone else having troubles getting the achievement from the third level in the easy campaign - Swamp Touch - Cast Swamp 3 times.
I've cast Swamp around 20 times by now in that level and I still haven't got it.
Other than that, great game ^^

Lord help you if you try to fix the damage the computer does while you're in its frame of view, since it'll just redo the damage just as you try to fix it, and at this point you're basically playing "keep the sand castle up underwater".

Since you can't terraform without enough mana, you're basically locked into either helping them develop (which takes more than one minute), or making the tiniest headway towards "encouraging" them in the direction of the enemy and then stalling out because they won't even go in that direction and you run out of mana. If you form a leader, the leader moves at half the speed of a normal unit, and if it bumps into a barrier (water) while ambling slowly towards the enemy, it will bounce off at the appropriate angle and entirely forget any kind of pathfinding it had concerning attacking the enemy while it just slides away like an unpolished hockey puck. You can just forget about one minute.

Wait that just applies to the second one. The first one is impossible because your followers are stupid and will wander off in the most pointless directions that have no land at all, or have to be forced out of their temples in order to keep spreading, and even then they basically start running in another random direction at that point.

Achievement bonuses are persistent. However, "contact in 1 minute" and "flatten the whole world" are almost nigh impossible due to the instantaneous speed and multiple target ability the computer has to mess up so many things at once. It never stops moving and always knows exactly where you are messing around if you are targeting a large temple or attempt to drown somebody within the span of a second and fixes the problem so fast, if you tried to target more than one building, it would fix each assault right as you hit the next target.

Fun fun. ^^: I liked the original Populous, and this is a fairly interesting remake of it. Simplified, and still amusing. 4/5 Rated down one star due to the clicking terrain being a pain in the neck to decypher when it's going to go up and when it's going to go down... Just when I thought I had it, it seemed to change the rules on me again, so I gave up with it. Luckily, the mouse wheel works for that.

@ericbloedow: thanks for the report, I've just looked and that is a genuine bug. The pause is expected (the game redraws the entire playing field) but the reward is currently broken. New version coming soon.. @frozenicepak: yes he is, take revenge by beating him... :) @mrlousy: yes the achievements do stack (if you look at the achievements page under 'options' you'll see a multiplier next to each one.) You can only get the reward for each level once (so you can't play level 1 ten times and get free thunderbolts), but do level 1 and level 34 and they'll be 10% cheaper.

The A.I. Is a real jerk, He always drowns your population with the most health, and he once used swamp on my last person in armageddon, his population lagging slowly behind, resulting in 5 wasted minutes...

The reason why building moves very fast is that it is a very simple matter of turning the foundation into a slope and forcing the house's owners into combat.

the swamp spell is slightly glitched: there's a long delay after i cast it, and i can't seem to get the lvl 3 achievement (cast the spell enough times and the spell cost is reduced)

@atm1knight: The game is set up for badges... all it needs is a good enough score :)
@doktortr: Seek help... seriously!

@Cogitation and crigoo There is a map, I don't know if it's considered "mini", but you just have to click the right button to bring it up.

@Lockstep80 - the achievements work slightly differently to most games, this system uses 'achievement goals'. You are offered *one* goal per level (big flying thing at the start), if you succeed then you get that achievement and the reward that comes with it for the rest of the game. So on level 1 if you cast ThunderStaff x10 you get the Thunder-God achievement and your ThunderStaff spell will cost 5% less mana for the rest of the game.
The flying thing can be clicked to get a description of what each goal entails.

I'm waiting for Welsh-God-Game. Like Aztec-God-Game, but you have to make the land Hilly for them to live in instead of flat.

One of the things that would, in my opinion, make this game 10x better is a raise to level button. Rather than clicking and hoping that the game correctly interprets where you want the land to be you just tell it where you want any click you make to take the land. Other than that combat seems to take a long time and perhaps building stuff should take longer than instantly.

Armaggedon needs to lock spells for you and for the other guy. It shouldn't just be a way to get all my people in one place so he can drown 'em all.

I loved Popolous on my Amiga. An I love this conversion. By the way you can use shift and crtl to raise/lower the landscape. 5/5

Populous is the best game ever. But this just sucks, sorry!
Everything happens very fast and confusing. I cant controll anything and after a while i win. My people get stuck little puddels. I cant click anywhere because that alters the ground. There is no way to view stats of houses and units. Women are destroying houses with cricket bats?

I only played the game for about 20 minutes, but it was enough for me... loved populous and you did well... it's just a shame all these people are groaning about features that are in the game already!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The controls are so horrible... There should be two distinct buttons for lowering and raising the land. And having to click in so many different spots is annoying as hell.

FlayerSlayer - when the buildings disappear, the people inside them come out (different strength for different buildings)... everyone merges as they meet up to make one super-strong leader. Your leader fights his leader and usually the strongest one will win. Armageddon is the *fastest* way to end a level, but you might choose to just beat him by destroying all his houses and people - it's your choice. Oh, and the score at the end remembers how many buildings and followers you had when you pressed Armageddon, so you don't miss out there either.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I'm a little confused, I had 80+ people and 400+ buildings. The computer had 10 people and 50+ buildings. I triggered Armageddon and aside from all buildings disappearing, I dropped to 1 person? The end battle was ultimately 1 vs. 1. Why would anyone use this?

hellsdottir - can you report what rig you're using please? That's a very strange bug and not one I've seen before. One silly question but it has to be asked... did you try using the browser 'resize page' buttons?

Game screen does not fit in the flash window. I don't mean the flash window is too big for my browser size, that I can fix, but the game screen is actually wider than the flash window, so some game controls/info I can't see, and most are partially cut off.

WoodenCheese try playing the campaign starting at Medium, the AI doesn't really start using tactics until the higher levels. Alternatively try the random or custom games and keep picking new settings until you get an AI rating of 'smart as a whip'... to beat him you need to use deeper tactics.

This is either going to be a 5/5 or 1/5. I love Populous (downloaded it), loved it so much. If you put my goals too high...FAILURRRREEEE

I am super stoked you created a Flash version of Populous! It was a classic from when only gamers played video games! I was going to point out that you neglected to include sheep and that great campaign world map but then I remembered that it was PowerMonger. Still, superb recreation! Five Stars!

This game got repeatative after level 3. Just a game of who can level the ground the fastest. :( I was expecting more.

RedSnowman - I think you missed some controls. You can lower land to the sea (and drown the opponents) using any of: mouse wheel, SHIFT/CTRL, PgUp/PgDn, Q/E or R/F. The single click 'smart' land alteration is there as a convenience for those on laptops, I prefer not to use it. You do get more time to play god when you get to higher levels (provided the AI doesn't steam-roller you).
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I'm sad. I really liked the populous games, and this game really does not live up to the legacy. No control of game speed, the controlling land dynamics are cumbersome, you cannot even chose to lower the land to sea. You can only raise lower/land based on certain points rather than a toggle and with the increased speed you really don't have time to enjoy or play God really. 2/5
