When I read the description, I expected another Upgrade Complete (great games, can't recommend them enough!). This is actually more like Upgrade Game 101. Start off almost completely helpless, gradually gain currency to gain more ability, use ability to gain more currency, and keep building up, getting a little further each time, until you get something that really opens things up, then get to the end boss and take it on as many times as it takes to best it. Nothing wrong with a simple concept like this, I'm just a bit surprised this came out in 2014 instead of... whenever the first year of Kongregate's existence was. Don't see what's so hard about the boss; I didn't have any problem with it. 4/5

*Lands in place with infinite gold coins each the size of own head, uses them to buy steroids and more time to go in there simply to beat a giant skull then fly away*

Well done on Johnny Upgrade. It has a nice Commander Keen kinda feel about it, it was fun to play for half an hour or so, and every 'level' added something new. I am actually kinda bummed that it was so short. I could have played this one for a lot longer.

Part of the top of the screen is cut off (using Google Chrome newest version). Just thought you should now. This is a VERY fun game. Dig the soundtrack too.

If you go to the left and jump up there is a passage that lets you skip most of the level. You have to have use double jump and be upgraded enough in jump skill to use it

5/5! Satisfying gameplay & nice music. Would love to see a fleshed-out version. The boss's face at the end reminds me of the air conditioner from Brave Little Toaster.

Fun little game, I enjoyed it. 4/5. Would have been 5/5 but you made me waste 2 minutes waiting for your silly text scrolling to end before giving me my achievement. More chapters/upgrades in the future I hope!

this game is pretty sweet. You should get a medium badge for completing an entire game. Would of liked to see the guy blow up during the credits.

You will need approx 90 seconds from when you enter boss room, in order to defeat the final boss.
If you want to speed run, you'll need to max Multiplyer (for fast farm), jump, gun power, ammo till you have 10-12 rounds. You don't need to max speed, or energy. Hope this helps.

Best bit of advice I can give in regards to the boss?
Stop jumping.
I fought the entire battle on foot, and in doing so the pattern of the boss' bullets became incredibly easy to predict and avoid. Once you start jumping around, the boss seems to move away from you and is just not possible to shoot down. Just be patient, do some running around and dodging of the bullets and eventually he will drop down to the ground and let you get a shot in. Rinse and repeat for four total shots and you're good. The boss doesn't seem to change his pattern of attack at all through the process, so once you've figured out the rhythm you are golden.
p.s. - was anyone else reminded of a stormtrooper when he first popped out?
