If you head into the building from the main entrance, you can see a poster on the wall. It's the cover for captain beefheart's album 'trout mask replica.'

I am positive that Dave is a figment of the character's imagination, because in the very beginning the redheaded teacher asks the character who he is talking to, when both of the characters are right there. And everyone else seems oblivious to Dave's presence, and Dave seems to have some homicidal tendencies- which in cases of schizophrenia tend to be exhibited by the phantom voices rather than the person affected with it.

There are five bonus missions or clues hidden around the school that can help you
work out the true reason for Xerxes’ disappearance. If you find and complete them,
they will show up on SOMEWHERE on the menu screen. You don’t have to complete
them to finish the game but they will give you an insight into what’s going on behind
the scenes.
Someone find the clues and saw anything on the menu? Or they mean deleted scene that unlocked by 60 achievements?

This game is freaking awesome!
Ghost theory. + no one sees him, everyone ignore even if he is standing right next to you. - Dave's test in English.
Double personality/schizophrenia theory. + same as above. It explains the Dave's test in English. - He knows too much about the school. If he were a part of your mind he would knows as much as you.
Demon/Energor theory. + same as above. At the end he suggest you to kill everyone (possession?) Maybe he was already possessing someone's or your body and was killing people. This would explain Dave's test. - Don't see any. Maybe only why MC sees him but maybe MC has unstable personality that easy to manipulate.
Interesting lines from scenario after 10th mission
DAVE: Hey, who knows? Maybe it was you. Maybe you’ve got an alter ego you
don’t know about. Maybe he’s an imaginary friend that nobody else but you can see.
YOU: Oh, shut up. Stop trying to mess with my head.
Look who is talking :) So, split personality is author's proved theory?

You know, the character could be schizophrenic. But you don't know where Xerxes went the night she disappeared. Could you find Xerxes and kill her when she could be anywhere around, or even outside, the campus? Dave has a handwriting test, Dave somehow knows the way around the school from day one (the tutorials), and Dave happens to just suddenly notice a lump in the school playing field. The school has a history of children getting killed by other students, so Dave could be a demon that arose when Thomas was killed. He vowed to avenge the other kids, who all were involved in his death. Dave possessed other people to kill the children. (Remember how at the party he was asking about delivering vengeance on them all? He could have trying to possess you because you were vulnerable then.) He's a demon, so he could appear to anybody in any form; for example Xerxes might have seen Dave as Energor, and for the player it was simply your likeness.

you should have added voiceovers for every ingame text and sell this game for 10euros, it's that good... ppl would buy it.

i see the dave is a ghost comment so i know it is true cause i dont see him much and dave eats what you eat maybe dave is not a ghost maybe he is a imagination friend thats why dave is friendly with your charecter

@SpinelessCoward i think he's not a ghost because Dave passed a test sheet in the writing skills and he is involved in the mails to Mr. Andrews

SpinelessCoward and afcotuna, i agree with you two, and i also noticed something that should point out that dave is indeed part of our mania... Have you noticed that he knows more or less everything about us? For exemple, he knows without us telling that we got expelled. And when we ask him how come he knows, he says we have "taht look about us", obviously hiding his "true" sources... Whats more, the protagonist definitely needs a reason to be in the school and to get expelled from his other school, that should point out a mental disorder

Spineless Coward and afcotuna I agree further evidence is the Game itself is called "Wasted Youth" and at the beginning Mr Ross said "who are you talking to go to class" when clearly The Character was talking to Dave

is there gonna be a part 2? cause that would be awesome. The characters and their "issues" along with the story line creates an amazing game with great graphics. I love it and replay it lots because each time I play it, I pick up on the random abnormalities others have posted here about Dave and the character

I agree with Probenchwarmer he is probably mental because he is not bad like the other kids and he actually does what he is told just that he is mental is the only reason he is in the school!

Loved the game, one suggestion for the next game is let us actually do something with all the piggemon cards we collect. I was expecting some mission where you face off against some nerd in an epic game of piggemon!!!

I think that the character has some type of mental issue and Dave is a figment of his imagination. because when the character first meets Dave Mr. Bastard comes up to the character and asks him who hes talking to even though Dave is next to him. Also Dave knew the character had gotten expelled from his last school even though the character had never told anyone that and the only way Dave could know that was if he was figment of his imagination in which case Dave would know everything the character knows because they are one of the same. If I am correct though then i would also suspect that the character is responsible for all of the kids disappearing and isn't consciously aware of it. that would explain then why all the kids started disappearing right after the character showed up at the school, and why Dave seemed to be slightly psychopathic when he commented on how the character should kill everyone at the school to get revenge.
