So apparently there was some kind of world war (possibly a nuclear one) that destroyed humanity. The big thing outside the guard post was the Laser Drone on Thod's card. That was a war machine used in the war. In the guard post there is screens saying "Received pullout message," "Order Omega issued and completed," "Abandoning the internees."
This means there was some guards there, until they got a message from their group telling them to leave. So they left all the refugees (Tia, Dad, etc) behind.
Tia finds her uncle dead in the outpost, with the monitor saying "delivering lethal something." That probably killed him.
When Tia walks outside, she sees just how empty the world is (there was probably just a barren wasteland outside, judging by the brownish coloring), and realizes there is no one left in the world.

The cards were probably based off the units of the war, such as the soldiers fighting, the snipers fighting, the citizen (on the card it shows a missile flying towards a city, so that's a hint of a nuclear war), the tank, the silo as a military base, and finally the Laser Drone as probably some kind of WMD, and is found outside the base.

When I went into the woods no guard I think "so what" I enter the room and find two corpses and the soundtrack, and see a shadow out of the corner of my eye. NO LIE! (so scary I wanted to rush to my moms room!)

so is it implying that the card game was actually based on what happened? that robot thing was a strong card yeah, and when the dad said that 'he hadnt played it since he was young' or whatever, was that the war?

When I put my mouse over the thumbnail, I read the "card" as "car." I thought, yay, a disturbing game where you beat people with your car? GREAT, and now I realize that I'm just retarded.

There are currently 2 theories on the forest ending:
1.There use to be a war, but now instead of fighting they used cards with the units on it.
2. The battles are real, and they happen outside the fence. Like when you play a soldier and the opponent plays a civilian, a soldier kills the civilian outside the fence and so on.

It should say, "Don't go into the woods first thing, that'll just completely ruin the game for you in about 20 seconds."

Awesome game. 10/10. Only problem is... WHY, after finding out about there being no guards, CAN'T YOU RUN BACK TO THE VILLAGE AND TELL EVERYBODY ABOUT IT... now that i'm done with my rant, that WOULD be a cool alternate ending. I tried it and it didn't work. + this if you think it should have that alternate ending.

@TG WishyBlu - Go into the woods. Keep finding the exits for each new room until the ending. @edward0524 - On the left side, there's a path with different tiles. That's the entrance. @BrunoMetzger - Talk to other kids (X) and play card games with them so you'll get their cards. Keep finding kids you can beat until you have all the cards and beat all the kids, then go back home and talk to Dad again.
