It would be nice if I gained exp from all the mobs that magically appear after the floor is cleared and I found the staircase...

-The Space key have the same use as Enter.
-To heal when you don't have anymore health pots or heal spells ready, use all your spells (preferably) then use a mana potion and it will regenerate the heal spell.
-I find that the heal spell is not terribly good (even if it always heals you to full) once you get something useful to put in the last slot, as it doesn't recharge fast enough.
-You can use Shadow walk even if you're in front of an enemy, because it will still make you invisible to enemies. Then you can go near an enemy and hit it for a backstab (which does double damage) as long as you are invisible, which is easier if you use Haste or freeze the enemy before going invisible.
-When you use sleep on an enemy, attacking him won't awake him. So you can make an enemy come after you, go away from other enemies until the 1st one is next to you, then make him sleep and buff your (or debuff his) speed or attack or both if needed, then attack him and he won't attack back.

Wizard is pretty powerful if you pile on the spirit in your equips, with speed as a secondary focus. Fireball is your main way to deal damage, with distraction spells like Sleep and Fear to keep the enemies busy while your other spells cycle. At the end, I had 2x Fireball, Fear, Sleep and Heal as my loadout, though between Fear and Sleep there is hardly any need to be at risk of taking hits at all.
What would make this game even better / more fun would be some kind of purpose of the dungeon crawls, something to work towards over the course of multiple expeditions.

I went with rouge: quite OP if you find another shadow step. After that, just stack speed buffs and you'll win. I used heal, 2 shadow step, berzerk and haste, but you should do the best with whatever you have. Remember, shadow step charges on speed, berzerk charges on attack, and heal charges on exp, so those are great for melee chars. Backstab deals extra damage, so if learn monster HP's and find when however many buffs OHKOs or 2HKOs, to make the most of your buffs.

I love it, it's minimalism style and 8 bit graphics are similar to Realm of the Mad God but it's a solo dungeon crawl. I don't care for Diablo but I've always been a huge fan of the Fallout series ever since I got to play the beta as a teenager in the mid 90's, the free exploration/turn based combat combo is the best.

SPOILER: The ending arrives suddenly and without warning: After killing the last monster on the last level, we win - the main villain escapes and we can't even fight him! ARG!

I actually found Rogue very easy, if you find a few delaying(Mirror, Freeze, Charm) spells at the beginning. These+fireball=Invincible rogue!

Beating it with a thief was fun. Ended up using two shadow walks, sleep, heal, and polymorph for spells and a double bladed katana.

So you never win. You just kill the minotaur's servants and he runs through the portal. No boss battles, nothing.
....
Aw.

Cool! I was just listening to Roguelike Radio and Googled this...and found it on my all-time favourite site! Love your podcast dudes.
PS There's a 'roguelike' tag on Kongregate??

This has the same feeling I got when playing LoZ: A Link to the Past. The graphics are just low tech enough to be extremely fun while it leaves the bulk of the experience up to your imagination. I'd really like it if you'd pull that chance for enemies to kill you instantly down just a little bit, and maybe give a new life every 50 coins... or maybe not even both of those... but PLEASE do at least one?

First of all, if you're a mage and you get a second fireball, you pretty much have the game made provided you play smart. Secondly, I'm pretty sure if you get 100 coins you get an extra life (to whoever was curious).

i gave up on floor 7 even though i had spells that help me escape, fight, or transform monsters. i had no more hp pots left. the teleport spell and shadowwalk spell are awesome combos.

Hm, I like how the game is now a lot harder (especially if you didn't find polymorph) at higher levels with mage, but going down a floor, and starting with 2 minotaurs left and right (right NEXT) to you, not so much fun >< Insta-rape.

Wow.. that GameOver screen is unforgiving. I was planning to be here all night. :( Flo0r 8 with epic gear 5 health pots and I made a stupid mistake... Sigh.

Currently floor 6 with thief (or was it rogue? i forget) with full hp and5 health potions. destroying monsters like a badass boss.

Oh, check that, just played through with the thief and it was great fun. he's actually insanely powerful. How many minotaurs did I just kill? like 20? I only had to kill one as the wizard!
This is truly a game that is good enough to play through with all the characters. Diablo, eat your heart out :)

Running out of heals? Some rogue-like basics:
1) one mob at a time: back into a corridor or doorway so they have to come single file.
2) use the wait key to make them come to you: if they take the last step to melee range, YOU get to strike first instead of them.
3) rest up between fights, don't proceed without your important cooldowns ready.
4) kite/hit and run as a wizard/thief: do some damage then bail, fear/sleep/invisible to split up the mobs or escape entirely, recharge& repeat.
5) if all else fails abuse polymorph. bandits<minotaurs

Still sometimes selling weapons that are not strictly better! It auto-sold a higher damage -2 speed weapon for a lower damage -1 speed weapon.

All bugs aside, this game is still great for being a total time suck :P And yet in all due honesty, it's really a great and yet simple game, yet it's got room for strategy too.

here are some of my ideas
1.rare rooms with a store where you can buy items with gold
2.more classes
3.endless mode (unlimited levels)
4.able to upgrade weapons and armor

For the love of god, why won't the game text load properly? All I get are spaces filled with "???" When this happens, I can't progress to the gameplay...

Wolfa12, good job comparing a rogue-like and a shooter. I'd create multiple accounts to downrate your comment into oblivion if I had the time for it.
Idoyehi, great job on the game. You've got the fundamentals for a crawler down, though I do miss some commands, like the ability to close doors. Makes kiting a bit easier :D Skill/perk trees and unlockable classes would be a nice addition. Love the footstep sound effect, great music, beautiful sprites. I wish you the best and hope this pans out into a franchise for you.
