I'm on the Gaul battle where I have to protect my troops against artillery. The only good strategy I could think of is to camp at my base untill I have 10000gold before sending my troops on a massive suicide-rush. It was impossible to simply react to the catapult strikes and drop the safe-zone - they're too fast; If I try to predict where the enemy's gonna drop it, the computer will just wait it out. SIGH

MINER PROTECTION
This is simple, really, as I've noticed that they send melee units and ranged units to assault your miners, just send defenders and archers as soon as you see this and if you have any problems with that send in a cavalry unit.
DEFENDING ON THE ASSAULT
This is easier than Miner Protection, you just need to send defenders to take the arrows, then put archers following them, then put legionnaires to take the side enemies while a few healers are following. Then let some cavalry get to the battle to take the arrows with the defenders while your lesser troops dominate the castle.
DEFENSE WITH SMALL ARMY
If all you have is the ability to get three unit types, just get a defender, archers, and miners. Put some archers out there then some miners, then spawn a couple of defenders to go take them out, when your extra units show up, use them. You should survive the level.

This game is OK. When i first went on and saw the mass destruction I was like: HELL YEAH! Little did i know I wasnt gonna be able to choose between defence and offence because they had already chosen offense for me. :(. Especially since i usually choose defence this was saddening. Also the miner idea is ok but really? on the side of a cliff my men are mining for gold? What wierd world is this? Also how bout a garrison button? And yes i know in later levels you can do blabady blah blah I dont care, you dont get your choices in the begining and thats where it really counts, when you dont have the troops to devise plans. Needs work for me to rise above a 4/5. Still not that bad. Ive seen MUCH worse.
