ok for those who ahd same problem than me. u did all the code well(BG drew by urself) and did the 2 images thing) but after the 2 images ur getting a blank space be4 reloading
ok 1st be sure ur picture is 2110 by 350 that was my size(i think u can adapt the solution for other sizes but i tell u how I did) and make a space of an uni4 color at the end and begining then put the _x -= -1500 and ur image will repeat be4 having to see that blank^^
this makes ur BG have a boring end so if sum1 finds a better solution plz post it

I am making my background go downwards... however I can get it to go downwards, it just won't loop... it is 600 px tall... is this cade correct?? class Background extends MovieClip
{
function onEnterFrame()
{
_y += 20;
if(_y < -600)
{
_y = 0;
}
}
}

make sure the class name and the class name that you enter in the code are exactly the same caps or lower case and everything i was having the same problem but figured out that this was the problem

I got this and I cant fix it "The class 'Background' needs to be defined in a file whose relative path is 'Background.as'."
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
This dont works ITS DONT HEEELP its only says, do this and this etc... but im in page 5 and I put the rigth code and everythign and its says : The class or interface 'Background' could not be loaded.
THIS SHIT SUCK

Ok, guys, I got the solution after many attempts to make seeminglessly infinite looping background. In the background.as, change the 2110 to the width of the background. Tada!

i got this problem with the ship as well and im not sure how i fixed it it just worked eventually. my problem is i keep getting an error message saying "the class 'background' needs to be defined in a file whose relative path is 'background.as'." anyone know how to fix this?

I got it working, not sure why it wasn't before... I deleted all my background PNG and Movie Clips and started fresh and now it works.

I've finished all the posted Tutorials so far, so yes I went ahead. I put two images side by side as they said to, and set the scroll size equal to the first image. It works, for about a minute then it seems to stop all together, no looping, no background at all.

You two guys did look ahead in the tutorial right? It's supposed to do that, and they change it in the next step.
If not.. I dunno maybe you didn't save. But don't give up, I missed a few things up till here too (had to rename my ship image to something besides ship e.g. took me a while to figure it out).
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Yea i'm having trouble looping as well, I gave up on my own creations and just went to the default images/backgrounds and still i cant get it to loop. Guess i'm not cut out to do this stuff if i cant even cut and paste *shrug*

Love these things, but one question. My background is NOT looping seamlessly infinitely.. it's doing well for a little bit, then all of a sudden it just scrolls the background off the screen. Any Ideas?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I'm giving up for tonight... I had it working yesterday and had it all saved, but when I came back today it wasn't working (wth?) and I can't seem to fix it now. Super ticked off at this >.<

lucika you need to specify what type of file to import ur pic as, you prolly want to re-import the image and specify a .png to get rid of the background

Oh wait I fixed it, I already had a symbol in the library named Background, so I deleted that and re-made it. Does anyone know why my character moves so blockily? Like, it doesn't flow in movement.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
When I try to convert the background into a symbol, it does this: "You must specify a unique identifier to import of export this symbol!"

Just a random comment-
I set the value for when to change _x back to 0 at (-1540) because at that value it nearly perfectly loops the end of the background to the beginning. Which = less white space at the end before it loops back to the beginning.

Lucika- I think your problem is that you're saving the canvas (Drew in paint, right?) along with the picture. I think you can load the picture into photoshop, crop it, save it, and THEN upload it into your game. That might help.

Hello! I have created a ship on my own, but it has a HUUUGE white frame around it in my hand-drawn background. What should I do?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
If you want it in spanish go to google and look up free translator. Then anything you see in the tutorial just copy that in there and convert it to spanish. It might be choppy but if you dont understand this that bad that would be the best solution.

Hmm... two main problems (small, tiny, i am sure other tutorials can fix these) AS 3.0 is out, please use it, and to use it, you need Flash Professional CS4. CS3 or even CS2 are still pretty good. I know some CS2 users that are upgrading to CS4. I believe the upgrade for it is a low price of $199 (£99). I am not saying CS3 sucks, but I have toyed a bit with Flash Professional and other Creative Suite apps since I was nine. I suggest upgrading to CS4. My dad has Design Premium CS4, and I am getting Web Premium CS4. If you want, I could give you the installer files (depends on if you use Windows or Mac OS X). I use Mac OS X. (Wow, is this comment getting long or what?) Anyway, nice beginner game, and keep up the good work Greg. Ciao!

Here are some free video tutorials on Flash: Flash CS3 Professional Essential Training (non-programming): http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=353 ActionScript 3.0 in Flash CS3 Professional Essential Training: http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=423 I know the last one is AS3.0 but Lynda.com's AS2.0 doesn't have very many free videos while this one does.

What the hell? This is in AS2? How ridiculously shitty.
it works perfectly in as3 asshole!!
Magical_Zorse Levelbug3 Oct. 17, 2008
Hmmm, this is all of the easy stuff. But It doesn't work. They use classes, how ridiculously complicated for a simple shooting game, just use clip events.
obviously u'll never be a good programer ...

I would like to get badges from doing this. ;D (not a joke)
I think something like UVa or even better like TopCoder, but for flash games.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I would so be a developer if I had flash. I already know how to use it and have made some games at school, but alas, not at home.
