to shoot with reapeating rifle you use the top pipe on the rifle to reload and the bottom one to fire I advice using an alternator valve.

I just really loved the game, so i looked krispykrem's profile. I think he is a Russian. Russian people are awesome, their video games have so realistic/open-minded gameplays like Metro 2033, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Red Orchestra, Hammerfight, Killing Floor and so on...

Now after hours of trying to understanding the game I get it then I beat the game. Needs more missions for sure also a tutorial would have been of GREAT use. Fun game 4/5 though for making it really complicated.

Flamer needs twice as much fuel.
It'd be nice if sledgehammers had two charged settings, the current one and one where they're held vertically for double damage (300).
I'd like to be able to toggle the lever with space.
Jackhammers needs to jack faster to be worth it.
For the people who need a tutorial: There's a questionmark in the upper left corner of the building screen, otherwise read the tooltip.
For the people who are having trouble turning the pieces, try pressing ctrl while holding the LMB before placing the piece.

I disagree with the people who say this game needs a tutorial. Too many "puzzle" games walk you through the first 3-7 levels and show you all the tricks you need to solve every puzzle thereafter. This game however, leaves you to figure out the best way to manipulate the devices given. It's not like inventors have a "how-to" guide on how to go about making new things. That extra bit of brainpower I have to put into experimenting in this game makes it a whole lot more fun. The core concept of the game isn't all that hard to grasp: steam goes from point "A" to point "B" via the pipes. It's the same basic idea as the flow of water or electricity.

This game was great I just beat it and am hoping for the sequel it does need a tutorial but i got along fine using trial and error 5 stars.

Great game, 5/5 and fav, but I see some things that might be changed:
-tutorial- obviously, see other comments
-more opponents
-... more weapons? no, I think that 6 is enough (lot of combos)
-more valves? maybe 2 control valves, or one 3-step
- better flamethrower, maybe make second input with fuel instead of steam, and fuel tanks inside robot (optional)
Hmmm, I still love this game, Zach

I built a mech that I could switch the lever to either crouch, or stand. When crouching it'd do nothing, but while standing it'd charge then fire it's double cannons! Before that I had a double rifle system, but double cannons are so much cooler =p Hint for automatic cannon: (cannon)(joint-connector)(60psi-fuse-valve)(boiler). The joint connector is going to create a leak, you must stop that leak with a steam vent.

I think this game is wonderful for my sceintific min, because of the fact that I can't beat a level then come up with something in the middle of the night, and it works!

I really love the concept, but it took me quite a bit of frustration before I figured out how things were meant to work. IMHO the learning curve is too steep. I'd love to see a new version with tutorial (say, the first two missions with half built mechs to help people get the idea of how things should go together).
Once I figured it out I loved playing it and was disappointed when I quickly reached the end. Please, sir, can we have some more?

I think this game is supposed to be played by Electrical Engineers, I gave this game to my boyfriend (he is one) and he said it was very interesting and fun

Figuring out how the steam will react with the different systems is part of the fun. Early science was mostly "trial and error", so it makes for an 1800's storyline. Besides other games don't provide a manual for how gravity works, or aerodynamics, do they? LOL!

Great game! I finished all these levels, had a ton of fun figuring it out. Then I went back and came up with all sorts of different designs for each level. Can't wait to see more for this game! I don't think a tutorial is needed, but I definitely would like some more levels to play.

Completely amazing, but a little difficult at first had to go to http://jayisgames.com/archives/2009/01/bureau_of_steam_engineering.php for help, would be nice if you made a sequel with better graphics and fighting but really good.

can't figure out how the pipeing work because i build a design that should work i flip the switch and nothing! it dosen't fire!

Huh.
Don't crouch, peeps, if you plan to use a repeater rifle. You can't hit a damned thing. I though I was clever with my double-repeater rifle thingy.. But nope. It's been ten minutes and me and level two are just cursing at eachother and firing at the same spots.
