Under rating threshold (show) This game is so full of win on the concept it blows my mind. The feeling of success on laying out a workable circuit board is awesome, right up there with building a robot that exceeds your expectations on Incredibots or Fantastic Contraptions 1 & 2... That being said, it doesnt get 5 stars from me for several reasons, some of which are very frustrating: 1. Snap to grid - This whole game is based on a grid, why make me draw straight lines with a mouse that can wander? Which leads to... 1a. Click and hold to draw straight lines - It would take the hassle out of laying a long section of metal or silicon, especially when combined with the above.

Under rating threshold (show) I'm still playing through and I really enjoy the challenge. (physicist) but the one piece I couldn't figure out was the timing type of circuit. I had to see another solution for that. making transistor gates was an interesting challenge so far in terms of logic, but it would have been nice for the tutorial to at least hint how to make a time-delay.

Under rating threshold (show) You don't want to know how much of the last three days I spent on the three classified designs. But I sure (re)learned alot about the thinking in low level digital electronics design. Sure, it is not the real thing (which is analogue, not digital) but it does come close. Also some of my earlier designs really feel awkward and clumpsy compared to the onces used as parts of the last three. And there is nothing wrong with a huge selection grid covering most of your design space, ripple carry counters and other multilevel logics are for people more concerned about silicon space than raw speed.

Under rating threshold (show) I have now finished the 16 nonclassified units. Interesting to see that the three classified once are mostly thing I have allready created. So if you just started doing this: remember to save your completed designs in a text file someplace safe, you _will_ need them. (Yes, mine are saved.)

Under rating threshold (show) y'all are prolly sick of hearing from me, but to help out with his cheat sheet, the PNP/NPN thing can be confusing to ppl who don't know circuitry. red or yellow will conduct the same, either one can cross under metal without shorting out (unless there's a via to connect the metal) if it's yellow with a red gate, that's 'normally closed' which means the yellow gets power until the red gate has power applied to it to block current. red with a yellow gate is 'normally open' which will only allow power through the red if power is applied to the yellow. one little trick, two yellow gates one after the other means it needs both, but two yellow gates on the same spot, opposite sides, will accept either on. aka an 'OR' ;)

Under rating threshold (show) Great concept but a little weak in the engineering accuracy. From the perspective of someone who has done some VLSI design work (simulations in an intro VLSI course) it's kind of confusing to not have it be clear if we are creating BJT or MOSFET devices. The tutorial talks about PNP and NPN and there is no polysilicon layer (as in BJT), but the construction is more like MOSFET. Also the lack of a ground is odd. Instead of having 0s we should have floating and strong 1's. Fixing this would require a ground and either resistors or CMOS. Also using the gate as the collector/emitter of another transistor isn't allowed :(. Despite all my grumbling though it definitely has lots of potential, and the challenge of not having a metal2 layer makes it a nice puzzle. Kind of like circuit board layout challenges more than VLSI challenges, though. On a side note it would be nice if the controls were hold shift to delete whatever is selected and P and N doped silicon were separate buttons.

Under rating threshold (show) I think the tutorial needs to take a step back and explain things even slower...I can usually do programming games, but I have no idea what is going on here, what P and N mean, what the difference is between silicon and metal, what is "above" and "below", what the diagram is even asking me to build, etc.

I've reached an impasse though; does anyone know how to create the power-on reset generator? So far everything I've seen includes resistors, which you don't have in the game. are you supposed to put loads of gates in series and use the lag?
