I see that many people are having basic problems. To exit a building, click x, or if there is no x, then click back and then x. Make sure that you save every time before leaving your base area. To exit there, on the upper right you'll see the words World Map, click that, then you'll have a choice of where to go. If you're just starting out in the game, you'll simply want to be in Castaway Beach. After clicking, before you move, notice where you are. See how the land sticks out there with the length of 3 blocks? Well, when you want to go back to the buildings, that is where you'll want to go. If you walk around that section, to the lower right you'll see the land stick out again with three blocks, that is is where you can travel to the next section.

If you walk there, again remember your surroundings as to leave the next area there are two options of where next to go, but those are definitely more dangerous than those first two sections, where those sand beetles will not hurt you unless you first attack them. I do recommend not ever selling any healing items or shards as you will likely want them at some point. In fact, when you use heal, it is likely best to use up your weaker heals first so that you'll have stronger heals when you most need them. If you are one that thinks that the game is difficult then take it slow and steady. Simply battle those Sand Beetles for quite awhile, and I do mean quite awhile, to improve yourself. I realize that that can get monotonous, but you'll be much better prepared for the tougher creatures down the line.

Then you can venture to the next areas, etc. But always be careful how you progress and don't get to big for your britches. This game actually isn't very difficult if you do that. As for directions, while it is not optimum, it is the same that many other games use, and one simply just needs to get used to it. While battling those easy Sand Beetles, orient yourself to those directions. (FYI, there are different sections on the World Map, where you will also find creatures which won't attack you unless you attack them; they are simply more powerful adversaries. That is where you should again spend lots of time to build up your supplies and improve yourself.)

I'm guessing it was cool in 2010. Controls are wonky. Exits are odd. A bit of imbalance at the beginning. I like trying out new stuff, this wasn't great or anything.

So there's no way to know what is an exit and what isn't, even once you get used to the controls it seems to stop working momentarily every so often, the scenery is constantly in the way, the price for staying in the end and thus healing gets absolutely bananas quickly, you have to carry equipped things in your inventory, seriously limiting what you can carry, and to top it off the UI is ugly and it is so wearying to try and scroll through all the active quests or shop items. Thanks, I hate it!

What am I missing here? Been playing for an hour and all I've done is grind sand beetles. 20 shells? That's going to take all day. Still can't afford to buy the first piece of gear.

WASD is horrible for isometric games unless you can actually move left right up and down.
Why should S move me down and to the left?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I did enjoy the game, however: how in the world do I get back to town?! I died without being able to figure out the crappy map.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Constantly trying to work out how to get to the town when on an island. Just needs something like a little signpost placing at each of the exit points.

There are so many bad design choices that the basic gameplay loops is unbearable. Unclear/unmarked exits, awkward movement, opaque obstacles, Abilites and Attacks on separate pages, no hotkeys for heals, long slogs to home base with exhobertant Inn pricing...

I think I found what's causing the bug I encountered, after the initial reload of the game I went to castaway beach and the beetles were doing me 3 damage a hit, but after I completed the quest I went back to town and saved my progress in the traveler's den. Upon returning to castaway beach, the beetles did me massive damage once more and almost killed me. Upon reload of the game again, beetle damage was 3 per hit again. It seems for me anyway that I have to reload the game after every save of progress or I encounter this bug

OMFG I just got the easy badge by reloading the game and the bug fixed itself and the monsters no longer do me 40+ damage a hit
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Yep this game is broken, 1 star... gonna report it as the botd its gonna be for is unobtainable. I cannot get sufficient armor at the start to fight monsters at castaway beach that do me 40+ damage a hit and kill me in 2 hits before I can land 1 hit of 15

I think I encountered a bug in the game and got instantly killed, I went to castaway beach and the monster straight out killed me and my pet... I couldn't even escape from battle. I'm going to try once more but it looks at this point the game is worth a 1 star due to bugs and clunky movement... the other version of this game I played was MUCH better than this version
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@MarkZXmaster that's not even close to the only reason. The keys are so sticky, especially when in combat, that so far they've killed me more than any actual danger.

So much wrong with this game, but... I remember playing it years ago. It's alright and a pretty decent rpg - if you can tolerate all it's flaws.

for anyone who would like the assistance, instead of killing low level enemies to try and level up pets, just tell them to wait in a high level area with no aggressive monsters that come close to the exit the pet is waiting at
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Me: Thats fine I'll just run past the enemy
Game: Thou hath not reached high enough level
Also me: No, I forgot to save
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I keep wondering... are pets actually useful? They keep dying, especially quickly at higher levels of monsters. If I just ignore pets, I get two spaces of my inventory back (berries and fruits) and I can stop desperately using abilities to try to kill the monster before my pet gets flattened. I can stop fighting in underlevelled areas just to try to level my pet up for some survivability, just to have all that work wasted when something spawns nearby while I'm already in a fight and flanks my pet.

The freeze debuff is painfully inconsistent. sometimes it will prevent me from moving. sometimes it won't let me attack. on occasion, both will happen at once. This debuff is so terrible, it made me want to stop playing all on its own.

The walking... it's so annoying. The skewed camera with WASD or arrow keys just messes with my brain. It's like in games where you get a power-down where your character is drunk and the directional controls are all mixed up and you start walking into walls because you're so used to A being left, etc.
A/left sends you in a sort of up/left direction, which my brain thinks of as "up". I have no idea how you could even fix this, as the game seems to run on a grid... maybe point-and-click for movements?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's unfortunate since it seems to have a lot of potential but has a lot areas which could be improved. Firstly. the movement is rather slow, and the combat system is cumbersome. Second, vision is a huge problem with trees and pillars often blocking vision when you're being attacked. Finally, the inventory could be larger considering how equips take up space, not a major drawback but when combined together makes it really hard to get into.
