(Additional Note to my previous comment): If you wall your pet off someplace safe, they will level with you as well. (I gave up on pets, they die too easily).

QUICK LEVELING ADVICE: Expanding on the trick TwoHands mentioned, pick a map that has auto-attacking creatures that you can defeat and take little to no damage in the process (monsters respawn about 1 minute after they're dead, YOU heal 30 health per minute, so you can take up to 30 damage per monster and this works). When you kill something, watch carefully to find the spot where it spoawns...it will ALWAYS spawn on the same square. Bait creatures over to that area and kill them AROUND that spot, DO NOT PICK UP THE ITEMS. You basically build a wall of items that nothing can step across. Once you've walled yourself into that one spot where nothing can get in or out, just stand there. Go read a book, watch a movie, run around the block, doesn't matter. Every minute a new creature will spawn and attack you. You will kill it within about 10 or 15 seconds and get exp. Do this overnight and you'll get 6 or 7 levels from just standing there.

How on earth do you complete your first quest? I go and kill all the beetles fine, but then I can't make it back to the save point because of all the freaking snakes! Do I have to spend forever killing beetles to level up a bunch before venturing past the snakes? I've tried to give this game chance after chance, but there's only so many times one can die before giving up and hating the game.

Last time I got this uber cute foxy looking critter as my starting character. Now I got some green egg with wings and a tail. I want my fox!

whenever my pets die i just rush into whatever monster i can find so i die then stock up on healing items and feathers so can prevent my pet from dying next time... i still have the first pet you get sence i do that

when I first played this, it was on another site shortly after it's release. in that version, there was a awsome glitch in which the fire of fire eyes gave you over the limit health, like it was adding to the burning fire of the hero's indomitable will. when I entered the fire room here a few years later, not only was I shattered by the change, but was also horrible surrounded and burned to death... no amnesia blondes where harmed in the burning of this character.

I played Castaway 2 before playing this one. Notable improvements: inventory, battling monsters, and moving your character around the map. Still a bunch of issues with the game, but it's much more playable than this one. It seems the first Castaway was rushed out the door without much play-testing. I hope the developer's next works will show (s)he's read comments and feedback about his/her games.

i hate having to mute the game every time i load it up. and can you make it so you can access settings in the town instead of a map where i can be attacked as soon as i walk in trying to turn off the annoying loud sounds

great artwork and concept, but could use a little more polish. Controls are sticky, and trees get in the way of seeing things
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
a nice concept with attractive visuals, but the controls seem cumbersome and the inventory management seems lacklustre

"You can also command your pet by clicking the appropriate button in their sadfasdf below." o.O Not the mark of a polished game. Nevermind the myriad playability issues. 1/5. Ugh.

4 types of shards, 4 pieces of equipped gear, feather and potions leaves 4 slots open for quest items. No room for anything else. This is a serious

Sigh, another ad-revenue grubbing move. This game is 99% grind and 1% game. And miraculously losing the save file on just this game? Seems like odd timing with the BOTD. This game is designed to keep you on the page for no reason other than to keep you on the page.

Big sailor dude: Help us destroy these beetles!!! They will destroy us all!!! (Your character whacks them with a stick) Yay you beat them up we'll do anything for you!!
I think the game needs an explanation for why a big sailor dude doesn't know how to pick up a stick and whack beetles himself.

And here I thought castaway 2 had control scheme and inventory issues. You get as much space as a freemium mmo trying to force you to buy a better backpack and you're almost guaranteed to die from bad or outright missing controls rather than any actual difficulty.

- There is no indication where you can "walk off" the area you're in. Took me a long time to even notice that there's more of Castaway Beach than just the first bit populated by bugs.
- Unrealistic amount of grinding and walking required. Have to kill a gazillion beetles for 20 beetle shells for quest #3 (or #4, depending on the order you go about things). And unless you keep a close eye on your health (which you can't cheaply replenish) you'll also want to walk back to town every so often to save (which takes bloody AGES, by the way) because the thing doesn't autosave. Uh, no, I've got more interesting things to do with my time.
So... This is so close to an interesting and entertaining game, but such a complete failure on a few crucial points.

My only complaint is with the way that trees block the view. How much health does a monster have? Is there another monster attacking me from behind? Is my pet blocked by an item. Perhaps you could make the trees partially transparent when you pass behind.

Looked like a fun game with nice graphics, but then it was grind, grind, grind. Sorry, but I'm done killing beetles and snakes. Not rewarding at all. :(
