"An explosive shooter where every wall can be blown up and destroyed with a variety of things that go boom", you say?
sweet.
for some reason whenever i run around a corner and throw a grenade i always wanna say "oh herrow" at the same time. Strange?

I gave it 4 stars but i feel like it has potential to be far more than it is. Its a good game, dont get me wrong, but (as one might anticipate) hurling explosives around seems to be an entertaining way to slaughter hostages more than serve any game purpose. Dont get me wrong, its still fun and i love destructible environments, but sometimes the hostage part got in the way of... the um... rescue. I liked how vulnerable you were to getting shot. The game was rather easy and rather short. I feel like I should give it a 3/5 but at the end of the day, I played it through for fun and enjoyed it. You have real potential here, please keep working on it. Could be the next endless war type game.

*gaurd 1* hey i heard an explosion at the other side of the building should we check it out? *gaurd 2* nonsense it was probably just hank sneezing again

I would actually use the explosives and destroy the walls, except every wall that would be helpful to destroy has a hostage right on the other side. For a game with such destructibility, you're really limited as to what you can destroy without completely failing the level. >_>

4/5, for the bloody hostage AI. LOLOLOL I RUN IN FRONT OF BULEET AND MAKE YOU RESTART EVEN THOUGH YOU'VE ALMOST WON THE LEVEL!!!!

Dude I love this game, it's almost like an extended mission of 'Breach & Clear' from Modern Warfare 2, but better! 5/5

memphyssk, I really like the bullet physics. I also like the ragdoll-avalanche esque failure sequence. I also like the fact that the game runs smoothly and with little glitches. But please, if you got any closer to becoming an add for Kongregate, Hostage crisis would be better as a loading screen game to something with a little more depth.

This game needs to focus itself more; as it is, it's undecided as to what its core mechanic is, and suffers because of that. The game basically tells you, "use explosives to win", but then punishes you for using explosives when hostages are caught through the wall in the very fickle blast radius. I can't have fun with destructible environments if I have to worry about bad AI getting caught in a circle that fluctuates in size to frustrate the player.
Additionally, the AI paths were a mess, and in every level I encountered a situation where a hostage would be following the same path as the guard in their room, making it impossible to save the hostage or kill the guard. So then I have sit there for a minute, breaking the flow of game play, waiting for the paths to stop syncing up. Further, it was extremely difficult to coax guards out of the rooms they were stationed in, making it unfeasible to use explosives on them, since the hostage was easily within the blast radius.

Okay. Putting a clickable link to outside the game INSIDE the gameplay is absolutely one of the worst design elements I have EVER had the displeasure to experience.

1/5 cause of that stupid level with 7 hostages. The "gift" that you shamelessly ask 5 stars for ruins the map because of the small size and crowded civilians. You nearly can't go past it without taking it and ruining your chances of not killing a civilian.
Practice level design and don't ask for a rating. That's just lame.

Now who would make a room without doors? That's just silly. Now I get to make my own door thanks to these random explosives on the ground.

Finally I have all the achievments, and the games is really awesome though there's alot you can add like a shop, player stats, difficulty setting, more variety in enemies, and it would be AMAZING if you could come behind an enemy and melee him....that would be sweet... 4/5

wtf my progress is gone... ah f*ck it, gave it two stars anyway. Too small, and poor gameplay. Won't be coming back to redo the first 9 levels just because of a glitch
