A lot of people complain about going slow when you touch a wall, but you can actually use that to your advantage to fall at a slower pace and time your landings better on some of the later levels, so I didn't mind. I really like the entire premise of this game - a choose-your-own-adventure platformer? That's basically combining my two favorite genres. Love it, love the game, hope you make more!
I think, given the apparent popularity, when I find some time to get back to working on projects I'll look at doing a refined, longer and hopefully as engaging 'sequel' :) Thanks for taking the time to comment :)

Very good game I enjoyed it immensely but I have to agree arrow keys with the up arrow as jump would be much appreciated can't wait to see what you come out with next.

I really like the general concept of the game, and the music/art style adds a certain feeling that I also enjoy. However, some aspects of the actual game-play are a bit frustrating at times. For example, not being able to avoid the red orbs at certain points, you could make it so that William can duck down and dodge, perhaps? After all, there are only so many times a person can go through the same level without getting mildly irritated. Though as a whole, I certainly think it's an enjoyable game. c:

Wonderfully creative game, Mimicwing! Thank you for taking the time and effort you put into it. (: Unfortunately I cannot finnish it with my bummed up keyboard. v.v;

Really great game. Interesting story, executed in an interesting way. I would've liked for it to be a little longer, and the controls were somewhat annoying at times, but still a 4/5.

This game is great. the only thing I dont like is how when you touch a wall, you go very slow. The game is great though, so 5/5.

I'm a big fan of choose your own adventures, and this was fun to play, but i wish their were more endings, or that you don't have to go through the sparse, but you can go through the dense one.

good idea for a game but badly made as the control of the character is terrible as it takes forever for it to jump or move or even to fall off the edge of blocks

doesn't let me jump twice in quick succession. please fix this as it makes me die when im talking to the dryad near the start and makes the level much harder due to timings

Story: 9/10: Loved the story, its very beautiful and emotional
Music: 7/10: Music gives me an awesome emotion.
Gameplay: 6/10: Only thing I did not like is when you jump near a wall, you will slowly slide on it causing the timing on the red shooting ballsacks to touch you

I like how the gameplay kind of represents the reality warping shenanigans willian has to go though to change things. A masterpiece, congrats!

Beautiful background images, music, beautifully written and a bit chilling and scary for me, like any good fairy tale. Love the whole thing, love to see more like this. Thank you and best of luck with future games!

Might just be my computer, but this game was too laggy for me to even really start. Tis a shame. This game looks very promising.
Thank you very much :) I've jut started a new job and am moving city, but once I'm settled I shall be working on another of these as people seem to like them so much! :)
Well now, that is an idea! I will be exploring a larger array of characters and choices in the next one. I'll make sure there are some evil choices for you ;)

I don't like how if you jump and touch the side of the ledge, you stop and fall back down. I could understand that for a ceiling, but it makes the jumps really frustrating.
The jumping is very clunky - but, we live and learn - look out for super slick movement, collision and jumping in the next one! (Or maybe I'll cut the feature...hmmm... :P)

Mimicwing,You still haven't Answered how to upload a game!I finished making one and I can't seem to upload the thing!
At the top of Stencyl you should see a "Publish" button, click that, then choose Export as SWF. Then head over to Kongregates extensive Developer's section and follow the guide on how to upload your game :) http://developers.kongregate.com/docs/resources/faq#how
I'm glad you enjoyed it, was there anything about the levels you didn't like in particular? Or was it due to the sluggish collision & movement that people have already noted? All feedback is welcome :)

I agree with crackers. I'm not sure if I suck at platformers or the controls are a little off, but I seem to slide everywhere. The doublejump seems unreliable and I keep crashing into walls and slowing down. Overall those controls were a little too hardcore of an experience for my liking, and I felt like I was beating my head against a wall. But I did like the story and atmosphere...

i've dodged lava balls to get deeper into a dungeon to bring gold to my king; to save a princess; for death and glory; to discover my past; for many reasons. but never before to read a conclusion to a completely unrelated story.

I like the concept, however I didn't enjoy the game play. I know part of that is I'm not a big fan of platformers, so take that with a grain of salt. However, as a half-in/half-out kind of person with platformers, one of the things that turns me off is when it FEELS like nearly every jump needs to be perfect, or close to it. In this case, the height that William jumps up near the end of any given level always felt like if I didn't get it right I'd get hit by red.
tl;dr I think you turn off casual platformers when the tolerances are too tight. Just my two cents.
After all that is said, keep up the experimentation. It's great to see a developer actively talking to the players!
From feedback I've had (mostly outside Kongregate actually) - the platforming is a little too harsh, so you're right there. Though, as pointed out in a comment above (and elsewhere) - the collision detection & general controls are fairly stiff and actually quite annoying - I'll be the first to agree with that - so that probably makes the whole ordeal a lot harder than it should be. Still, that's not an excuse: but it's good to see that feedback is generally echoing eachother so I know what to work on when I do a platformer again. Thank you for playing and taking the time to comment! :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you for playing :) And, as a writer, It's good to hear it was strong enough to evoke such an emotional response. I feel I shall have to make a much funnier game next time to cheer people up! :)

Why is it constantly printing LastLine to the console? Also, I'm getting only about 13 FPS on OS X 10.5.8 with Chrome 15.0.874.106
Ah, thanks for catching that - it's something left over from testing that I forgot to remove. Will publish an update in the next day or so with that, and some other issues, fixed. Might help the lag as well. Thanks again

The controls are much better now. I really like the visual style. The music was good but it got a bit repetitious. Thanks for making this -- I look forward to your next game.

Either I suddenly got much better at the platforming bit, or the customised controls definitely helped a lot. Thanks for that. Very enjoyable game, still have to play through it a few more times to get all the endings, but it's not nearly as frustrating as the original control setup.
Fantastic, I'm glad you found a mix of controls you like - this way seems to be keeping everyone happy! Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you've enjoyed it :)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Only criticism is the controls, but I think you know that's coming by now. Maybe a temporary fix would be to reduce the rate of the projectiles to bring down the difficulty until you get a more fluid movement and collision system set up. Really not my kind of game but I enjoyed it while it lasted...although I doubt I'll play it again unless you ask me really really nicely.
Well Perkins, I'm assuming this is the perkins of the perkin clan, thank you for playing and glad you enjoyed it even if it's not your kind of game ;) Pretty sure a drink in the pub will be enough to get you to play it again? (Not that there's much use in that, mind, so I might save my pennies. :P)

Question: Is there just the two "William died" and "William is behind the door" endings? Is it possible to get the 'William behind door' ending without talking to the dryad? And the first time I tried talking to the dryad, it wouldn't say anything to me. Do you have to make it sparse before talking to her? Does picking 'Mother' or 'Father' change the storyline at all? Also, after beating the game, you should unlock a "Storyline mode" where you can click the words instead of platforming.

I see you lack originality cannon9008 aka the guy below me, or the guy who was below me, not sure what's going to happen after I post this comment.

The vertical speed in this game is the most frustrating I've ever had to deal with. If you run into a wall while falling, you go at a snails pace. I got so frustrated trying to beat the platforming portions of the level because jumping felt so bad.
It's a lovely game, but it just felt awful to play. Maybe that was just me =/
It will be the thing I spend the most time refnining if I make another game like this for sure. Thank you for taking the time to provide constructive feedback, sorry it felt overly clunky for you!
