The game could seriously use some simplified, INTERACTIVE tutorial levels at the beginning. Five minutes of playing around with one and two note scores taught me much more about how game works than the instructional bludgeon you saddled us with.

the only problem ic is 1-8 is rated as beyond impossible yet, i just completed the levels by rows and had no problem with it, not too much harder

When making your "song" look at the number of squares in each note. If you play that note it will put a block there, if you play it twice it will upgrade that block. But, if you play that note again it will disappear and need to be placed again. Since your song repeats, you need to take that into account. Start with the blocks closest to the spawn and play notes outwards to block the stars.
What it sounds like isn't important to the game, just a neat perk.

I love all of these percentage based stat boosts. Especially when we are never told what the base stat is! Or, even better, when we aren't told the order that the bonuses are applied in. For instance, is that a plus 3 BEFORE or AFTER the 20 percent boost? Makes a difference.

The concept seems nice enough, but I have absolutely no idea how this works. The tutorial didn't help at all, and relying on the cat to make random songs doesn't get you far, and isn't very interesting either. :(

instead of giving peopel a hard time on not knowing. seeing as i had no idea. might be helpfull to give a slight tutorial at the begining. but each note refers to a section of the room you have to defend. for those who didn't know.

its funny, ive had 4 years of piano lessons, mastered the entertainer, some songs from the phantom of the oprah, and songs by scott jopplin, yet the cat is a million times better than me. :( what does it all mean!!???!!!!

I have been a big fan of EVERY other game of yours nerdook, but this is the first one to disappoint me. Clearly this is made for people who know how to read/write music. I played roughly 20 levels, and had no clue what was happening. All I did was stay near the ghosts and they would die. I personally had no clue why they were dying. I am sure this is a great game for the aforementioned gamers, but I think that specific demographic is a very small minority to the flash game community.

I like the concept, nice to see someone still creative. Unfortunately the Cat with the Goofy-Random-Happy-Themes kills the mood of the game a bit. I would like to have a random function for something like the beautiful menu music...

Music is good, the artwork is nice but I really can't get the mechanics beyond this game. Sorry Nerdook but this is 1/5 to me.

so
i loved the game.... BUT i would like more bars and tempo, or dynamics...........FOR THE AVERAGE VOTE this should be changable in the options menu, for people who don't know music, they can use templates set on easy medium and hard which are good for simply completing the lvl.....

the crazy train intro import is epic! even though its too slow! actually, though, i discover if you play it on turbo it sounds just like crazy train!

Having clear button next to listen is the best way to screw your players over and over again. While I love nerdook games, that horrible GUI mistake makes it a much worse game than it is.

First I type in www.kongregate.com... Then I check the Hot New Games section... Then I see nerdook's art... Then I rate 5 stars... And finally then I play the game and realized I had no idea what I was doing... Why Nerdook? Why?!

To messy and way to easy. I just randomed every lvl and stood on the spawn box bashing ghosts to death. Love nerdook games but this one just feels halffinished

My parents used to tell me that my love of the music of Billy Joel would never help me to conquer the evils of this world. Well, I've certainly proved them wrong.

I really don't understand what's going on - and I'm a musician! Perhaps I should've read through the umpteen pages of "tutorial", but why should I? Why should I bore myself reading and reading and reading because the developer doesn't understand one of the central tenets of good game design - intuitivity. Sure, I understand that as you point out this is a unique game - but that is all the more reason why you should've made more of an effort to develop a better way of easing the player into this "unique" game environment.

Not quite what i expected, I thought the melody would create defenses that have their properties changed by the tune, but this is... alright? 3/5 It might be a good game but i dont see it.

I want to like this game. I really do. The composition tie-in to the gameplay is a fantastic idea. But I can't help but feel as though the execution is lacking. "Random Cat" is more powerful than anything I can possibly come up with. While I can see that as having made the game more accessible to people who like your games, I think it takes the reward away from those who put in hard work and effort put into crafting good tracks for the more advanced levels.

When I first saw the creator of the game I instantly gave it a 5/5. After playing it I realized the game only appeals to certain people who like composing music. So I change my rating to 2/5. Not happy with last few Nerdook games.

I like the idea, but the execution seems a little flawed. As much fun as it is to create good pieces, the game seems to punish this and instead reward those who write meningless strings of notes to beef up specific sectors of the TD map. Another issue is the previously mentioned disadvantage of having to create a whole new piece of music every level- yes you can save a piece and reuse it, but if the tower slots are in different places, the level could be quite difficult. All in all, a good game. For the contest, 5/5, an excellent musical creation. As a game, however? 3/5.

Nerdook makes some of the consistently best games and is incredibly prolific. Why do people whine so much about his games? There are literally hundreds of inferior games on this site that get far less criticism. Thank you again Nerdook.

Not bad, but a bit more explanation should be necessary for those who don't understand the correlation between boxes and notes. I doubt many people even look at the screen to see the music grid that spawns the boxes.
