Kakuro

Game Description (Game published on 2008-05-14)

Known in Japan as “Kakuro” and in America as “Cross Sums” this game is sort of a cross between crosswords and sudoku.
this is my second attempt at a flash game… be kind :)
Note:
I made a few upgrades, added a second page of puzzles. Added a bonus level for each column of puzzles completed. I tried to make the bonus levels much more difficult. Good luck.

I found an awesome undocumented feature! When checking for completeness, the game properly accounts for any negative numbers!

added functionality so that if you have a number entered into a box, and you hit that number again it removes number.
i.e.
you have a box with “3456” in it. you press “6” and it will remove the 6 in the box so it now reads “345”

and “x” will clear the currently selected box.

thanks for the suggestion crythias, i have added use of movement with wasd and arrow keys. using the helper you can use the mouse to enter a number. so that way game can be played with only mouse or only keyboard.

Love Kakuro. If anything else, I'd like to use the arrow keys/WASD to move between boxes, or click and a 3x3 box to enter/choose a number is possible. The better (imho) crossword interfaces use the [Spacebar] to choose whether to to go across or down. If you get to choose multiple numbers, though, then that won't work. (I can't currently type [3][1] for \4 [ ][ ]). Going back and forth between mouse and keyboard is tedious. Also, a timer would be nice.I don't care about the music because I mute everything here anyway. Finishing a puzzle should offer to go to the next puzzle in the set. Start/Continue don't work intuitively, because other games might reset completely if you choose "start". "continue" doesn't make sense: if you've finished a puzzle, "continue" may return you to that completed puzzle, not go to the menu to choose a new puzzle.

I have done them all, inc. bonuses, up to puzzle 29 (and they’ve all been fine); i.e. I’m on the fifth column (coz I didn’t notice the second page of puzzles until I’d finished the first).

hmmm puzzle 29 does indeed have a problem, i thought i checked all of these before i published them…
nice job rosw, have you solved any of the bonus puzzles, or puzzles on the second page yet? i see 3 people with a score of 18, i wonder if the extra puzzles i added are not counting towards the higscore…

Great game. I love it (especially the way the text gets bigger when there’s less in a square - very satisfying). And I love the way it’s so easy to make notes (they don’t even have to be numbers).
—But I’ve got a problem with Puzzle 29: the top left corner has 5 as the sum of just one box, and 3 using 2 boxes, one of which is the box with the 5—and this is obviously undoable. Also the 24 below the 5 has no boxes, and 23 can’t be done in 7 boxes. Does anyone else have this problem?

This is fun :D
...save is screwed up, though, I beat the first one after beating the next three, and it won’t register as being completed :c
