im done with this game. im sick of micro-managing my mouse placement just so my retarded "ultragun" overshoots like 10 shots, and my mothership having the armor of wet paper
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
everyone is saying to get laser turrets, but i liked the rockets better because they are homing. also, putting any turrets near the front of the ship is a really bad idea as they are targeted before the mothership. I ended up deciding i didn't like turrets at all because they can be destroyed, so im just maxing fighter ultragun, repair drones and fighter bays for now. im going to see how it works out :)

Ah i see, it isnt a bug, the game starts before the first chapter, if u make upgrades before chapter 1 starts, it reverts you back to where you were when it started, rather than completely restarting.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
There's a bug with the RU when you restart a chapter, on hard at least, it gives you some random amount, usually 25 sometimes 0, even if you are restarting the first chapter

For some reason I can't stop laughing at the badge "Aru Dead Yet?".
It's just so clever. Someone should give whomever made that badge god statues.

Finally beat hard mode, for me the key was to upgrade the gun and drones early, then build lots of laser turrets, right before the final boss, I sold all laser turrets and bought and upgraded the fighter bays, made the boss a piece of cake

The hardest part of the game is the beginning, not the end like it should. The beginning doesn't have the bonuses that you have at the end. I think the hardest part in the game is when there are 2 capital ships, as well as one ship that builds four fighter ships at once (Around the end of chapter 3) and after finally beating that area on hard, I lost my progress and now I can't even beatr that one area no matter how much I try. I'm giving up, it's not like it's an impossible badge... Sorry, this is just not worth it.

The hard mode was very difficult until I've reached level 5. After that, I had great healing, maximum main weapon, and all I had to do was building 12 fighters, then upgrading them. The last few levels were a piece of cake, the ship's health didn't go below 80%.
Excellent game by the way.

I thought my experience with hard mode was kind of interesting. Not sure if this is common for everyone, but I had the hardest time towards the beginning, when the ship started off with nothing. Once I got well into the upgrading, however, the later chapters were moderately difficult but nothing like I had to replay a chapter 15 times to get past it or anything.

Neat game, it reminds me of an old favorite called Solar Winds :) Well put together too.
Odd I beat the game and didn't get a single achievement though. Even after reloading.

I lost my game. Its Game Over, I click in the Restart from Checkpoint, and nothing, just the same image. I go to main menu, continue, and again Game Over. And I was so close to get my Hard Badge.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Hard badge is really hard, even watching the walkthrough and following it as closely as possible, I still can't seem to get past chapter 9. I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

I played this game so much last night before I went to bed, that I dreamed you had made an Orbital Decay 2 and it was up when I came to play this game hahaha...Get on that! I gave you 5/5, of course; if it's good enough to dream about, you're doing something right!

nevermind re: hard badge not popping. I did an F5 refresh, beat it again, and then just left it on the end "story" screen for about 15 minutes and it seemed to notice I had won finally lol.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
why is the hard badge not popping? refreshed the page and beat it twice more and still no dice. no cheats... blah. I enjoyed the game- the pace was definitely not slow on hard, but give me a break... gonna have to drop my 4/5 rating if there isn't a way to get the hard badge from registering

SPOILER ALERT! http://www.pirongames.com/blog/2009/06/orbital-decay-story-transcript/ So all the enemies were humans raised and commanded by you from the past. You get to the past by destroying the you from the you from the past that have a JumpGate onboard. so it explodes and makes a vortex that sucks you in, taking you back 15000 years, with no humans to control you. So instead you raise the humans to the evil ARU you fight. Then the Future you comes and you want to have a Godly showdown, and you die, making a wormhole to send them back and become evil again..repeat repeat repeat

It's kind of a bad sign when you can't get a medium difficulty badge because you're too efficient at killing things. :D

Great game. Love the concept and atmosphere. Too much happens offscreen, expecially vertically. Minimap would be good too, maybe as a purchase. Needs a fast forward for repeat playthroughs.

Nice homage to Homeworld. If anyone likes this game you need to go out and get Homeworld for PC, it's definitely where the creator of this game got the (quite heavy) inspiration. :)

Forget it, I got them by just replaying the last mission. Must have been a bug or something. Nice game, a bit monotonous, but entertaining.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
So I played through it, got all requirements for the first three badges, but I seemingly wasn't properly connected or something, and so I didn't get them....
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Really hard to follow the story line. And why would a ship "push on" simple because "there is something intriguing about the enemy"? I got my badges, at least.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
wtf?? the screen is filled with a giant ship and u have to move the whole screen right to see the enemies. Slow gameplay, badge of the day doesnt make sense....
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It's Homeworld. Isn't it Homeworld? Hell with that, I still like it. Nice game. One annoying thing are texts - they're a little too fast for me as I want to look what is happening around the mothership and I don't speek english fluently.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
At least for badge of the day, I suggest playing on easy and aiming for the turrets. You'll last long enough to kill everything in your path, and get the medium badges to boot.

Humans are evil ...who would have guessed? Apart from everyone or thing that has met them :P
I bow to the Anu and their magical ability to control and be immune to meteors :P That's some skill right there.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Geez that badge of the day is difficult. When those gun ships finally come around, I kill them before I can take out the turret.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Normal mode feels near impossible, I can't beat level 2. It just feels like there's no margin to try different strategies and there is one right one to win. Also no real idea how you're supposed to stop incomming damage. I keep spending on upgrades to keep alive, and I still am getting dinked away.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I really like this game. I do have a problem with the debris from destroyed ships as they do start to slow down the game. Maybe if they would disappear after a few seconds, it would help.

I had a blast!!! I typically do not like space shooters as they're too confusing and boring to me. The only reason I even checked it out was because it was Badge of the Day -- controls were GREAT - loved auto-fire - upgrading weapons was easy. Watching the repair drones going all over the ship was so cute. I wish there were more chapters. Liked the Aru Dead Yet achievement title. I gave it a 5/5 even though the story line communication text was hard to read -- the true value to me was it's an enjoyable game, easy to pick up and play game. The chapters were short enough that I could pause and go do chores and come back and play another chapter. I'm off to go try it on hard mode - wish me luck :-)
