There is another Raider game Psuedo made but never fully completed(instead making these 2). It's also done in a different style(similar to Metroid), but for those interested anyway, here's a link: http://www.fighunter.com/?page=gameplay&g=RDR0

This game got a rather high rating on newgrounds. The rating here reflects on the nature of the audience rather than the actual quality of the game.
Not saying its perfect though, far from in fact. But both design and concept is really great, no doubt.

why are there spikes INSIDE a ship? and turrets shooting at the crew? and why are there floating platforms? wouldnt some kind of bridge be faster to cross and less dangerous?

Difficult usually means that there's a lot of monsters or something. At least that's the good difficult.
This is, unfortunately, the bad difficult. Making jumping difficult is bad game design, not difficulty. I can't even get through the tutorial because of the dumb short jumps. I can get about 4 ladders before stabbing myself.

I love this game, I can truly say this is already my favorite flash platformer to date. It's style, gameplay and music was all perfect, beyond explanation. I only encountered on glitch, on 1_11 where I tried to use the "down a" to get down one of the really small platformers, and I ended up crouched under it a couple of pixels. All I had to do was crouch again, but I figured maybe this is something you could look into. Great game, Pseudolonewolf, I'm truly exited for the sequels!

I've noticed that a few people have reported laggy or broken controls, but I have no idea why that might be... Is it an issue with a certain browser? IE8 comes to mind. Or maybe related to some other software or hardware nuance? Either way, I've never experienced it before, and it's really unfortunate that anyone should experience it at all but I don't think there's much I can do about it until I know what causes it.

I got all the way through and the ending was completely worth it! Yay! -59 points! I'm adjusting my rating from 4 to 5/5.

I absolutely suck at this game... on any difficulty. Still though, I find a draw to it... Something that keeps calling me back after I lose. I love how the difficulties have been added since the original, btw. Uh, well, anyways... I give this a 5/5.

All in all though, this is a very good game. It is fun to play, and I love the Nintendo Hard general difficulty. I am really looking forward to the next chapter.

Yes!!! I finally beat it on Beginner, and with only 53 deaths. Even after you get the boss patterns down, it is still hard to keep the rhythm for the whole fight and losing the rhythm makes you dead.
I was surprised by how smoothly the game ran ( I actually tried opening a bunch of tabs to slow the boss fight down after I started getting killed by the low heath patterns, in vain ), and it gives me high hopes for all the games you put out for now on. I give it a 5/5. These games will most likely never go above a 4 Avg due to it's difficulty, but I bet plenty of people will play and enjoy all the levels.

This is going to be an odd question, but do you have a soundtrack for this anywhere? I REALLY like the music >_>.
It's really high quality, professionally so. My biggest gripe is that the gravity while jumping is too rigid, feeling very unnatural. Sometimes it's like I fall like a rock, others it feels perfectly fine. I think fine-tuning the jumping height would be the only change it needs. 5/5

Fun little platformer. I'm especially impressed by the music. 5/5, looking forward to future installments.
I think a lot of the people bashing this are expecting the wrong thing. The point of this ISN'T to breeze through destroying everything in sight, feeling like some unstoppable mercenary superhero. You're supposed to die, try to figure out what went wrong (timing? execution? bad luck?), die some more, observe, strategize, and finally succeed. Just because it's an online game doesn't mean you don't have to think about what you're doing. For me, trial and error and getting better is what made beating the game satisfying. Some of you naysayers should try approaching this with the right mindset; you might have fun in spite of yourselves.
One suggestion. Like a couple others said, in some convenient spot (maybe when paused), add a "Return to main menu" option. It gets annoying having to reload every time I jump on spikes while trying to achieve the elusive A and S ranks :-D

(Should I 'nerf' the whole game because people who are inept lack the skill to even select the 'easy' mode that they could actually cope with? o_O)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Are you people simply UNAWARE of the Difficulty settings, despite it being something that you have to select in order to start? On Easy mode, you have infinite lives and restart at the last checkpoint every time. The game is also, of course, EASIER. If you feel that the game is too hard, is it so unthought of to try an easier difficulty?

Everyone bitching about the controls and the lives system have clearly never played old school Nintendo or Atari games. Try playing Kid Icarus or the original Pitfall for several hours and this game will seem like a piece of cake. I never once had any trouble with the ladder or jumping system in this game and I've beaten it twice now on the two harder difficulties. (my grades have sucked, though lol)

I'm embarrassed to say that I still haven't beaten the boss yet, but it's been a fun game nonetheless. And I feel like a major idiot, but I finally realized a good strategy to use when the Wraith goes off the beginning pattern and fires directly at you. It seems painfully obvious in retrospect, yet it took me at least 20 losses to finally see it. :(

An awesome game. For those who say it's too hard. 1. You were warned. 2. Play on easy. 3. If you can't play on easy go play burn the rope.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
If you are dying too much, that is what the DIFFICULTY option is for. If you can't cope with the harder difficulties, then why didn't you decide to play on Easy mode? You never have to restart from the beginning on that setting.
I've never had any problems climbing on ladders using Up, and I've jumped on them in all kinds of ways, so that must be a lack of skill rather than a bug, probably (unless loads of other people report it too).
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Why are people complaining so much about the controls? Don't you take a few moments to get used to the controls in basically every game that you play, or do you just dismiss them in a few seconds if you're not familiar with them before you begin?
I was trying to give the feeling of an old-style console joypad with the control scheme. No console platformer I've ever played has used Up for jumping, and whenever I see that in Flash games I hate it because it seems so very 'amateur' or something. A, S and D are part of the WASD usually used by most games, but since the arrows are used for movement here, I used that as the 'other side of the controller' for all actions.
I though that ASD was a common control scheme for games - I've read that before, anyway - so it is surprising that people are so bothered.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
To all the people that complain about it being "to hard", you were warned it would be hard. Or do people not read descriptions these days? Besides, I wouldn't call it "impossibly hard", maybe hard but not to hard.

It's better than most games, that's for sure... HOWEVER (I'm not trying to be critical here, please don't take this the wrong way, it's MY COMPUTER'S problem!) like some other games I play... the keys jam! It's VERY hard to play with the keys jamming randomly (I sometimes RUN INTO obstacles!), but I kind of gotten use to it. The music is something, THAT'S for sure! All in all I give a 5/5. :D
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Well, difficulty doesn't necessarily mean that you die every three seconds and if you slip once you have to start over on a 3 minute trip. That's more tedious than difficult.
I've never understood why people have trouble understanding the difference.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I did not find the controls difficult at all. They are placed really well on the keyboard. (for me at least)
This game is challenging, but it is not impossible. You make it out to sound like Superman 64 or Milon's Secret Castle, compared to those games this game is a walk in the park and enjoyable.
I eagerly look forward to the future episodes of this game.

awesome game, i just wish the relics did something, say the special sword making your slashes faster, or work on ghosts or something

I was hoping that people would realise various controls from the How To Play section, which specifically mentions how to read signs and what skills you have... I suppose I could say that it is the player's 'own fault' for not knowing the controls because they didn't read about them, yet for a while I've been concerned that I should add some kind of tutorial thing, or at LEAST have a thing that appears on the screen saying 'press [whatever key you set; default UP] to read this sign!' as you approached it, since other tips are written on signs... I might do that.

This just goes to show that "Dick Move" games aren't in style any more. I personally love platformers that have lives, pixel perfect jumping, and annoying bosses. But now, gaming is all about not penalizing people for losing. Sad day. I would gladly spend hours at a quarter operated arcade game for this game once finished.
