it seems to me rather like 2 children playing at big cave exploration. the addition of detail as time goes on, the exaggeration of time. The giving of abilities to oneself while taking them from the other, realising they're going too far and imposing limitations on themselve. This is a brilliant game.

I'm not going to present a theory. I have so many, and games like this (e.g. Majesty of Colors, Don't Look Back (though it's based on a real myth), Loved, etc...) always make me think for days. The story is quite beautiful. I love this game, and games like it. Keep making games like this. :)

I just realized something! One of the little paper blurbs in the game said his friend was down there for a year. How long has this kid been waiting at that damn pond! My god !

Friends... with a squid.... who can write in English.... Yeah, this barely scratches the surface of all the crazy meter that are in some of these philosophical Kongregate games. don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this game, every bit of it. Just saying that even though i was expecting to find a human at the end of the game, I am not really all that surprised.

This game just shows that, even thoguh everyone now is talking about graphics, its only a stoyline thatmatters. This game is one of the games that proves simplicity will always trump complexity.

I love what you did with the 10 second theme. I don't even know if it was possible to drown because you spaced everything so well that I always got to air just in time (still preserved that frantic feeling though). Slow reveal, indirect storytelling. Really splendid all around.

Quinn's Review: The music in I Can Hold My Breath Forever is the perfect combination of moody and electric exciting to make your venture that little bit more frantic and desperate. The idea is intriguing, and the animation, while basic, suits the game well. The ending ... I think that's going to divide people. I would have preferred something happier, but I appreciate the intention and it certainly was an unexpected conclusion to the quest. Overall a very short but evocative experience.

You know, I think the person who dove into the pond wasn't their friend, but a strange, and the 'friend' abandoned the squid. :( Good game, though.

@Aster449 as long as i get it, it means that he missed his old pal and he was seaching for him thats what true friendship is going about

This is a true work of art. It is very sad in a strange way and also relieving. By the way, who is Jake Elliot? Is that you or someone else?

What a game! I myself along with the friend got lost in circles and even swimming to the begining once on accident! I do think now after long thought and finally beating the game(YES!!!) that the creator of this game replaced a human friend with an octopus friend just to stimulate thought, personal symbolic meanings and, to make one stop and think a little longer to find maybe a psychological meaning. I to did try to find an immediate idea. Mine was that the boy had the octopus was the boys old pet and they used to always swim togethor in the pond. Then one day the octopus found those caves and went there, he wrote letters to his friend/owner and continuted to journey. Once he found the end he sat and waited patiently all those years. I had thought it was just a game with an echo of Haciko (sorry if I missed the mark on spelling that). Then again that`s just my opinion...

It was a awsome games I loved teh twists adn turns in the game, both figurativly and literally. It reminded me of Atari graphics yet the storyline was top notch. This game is a def 5/5 and is this game in memory of someone? I fuly agree with pingpongpaddle, I think you can think of this game as a life lesson of sorts. That your best friends will last forver and always be there.

"I'd like to be, under the sea, in an octopusses' garden" No srsly, the symbolic is awesome. Having an octopus as friend means, he will wait untill hsi breath runs out. Witch means he will wait forever, no matter how deep he stucks in a weird, dark cave. :D

I see the meaning, since his friend dove into the pond, he probably adapted to the environment and slowly grew gills, and for some reason, he turned into a squid, dont know why, I was imagining a guy with gills. Anyway nice game

I think this is a memorial to a boy who jumped in a pond and never came back. . . Not sure though. It's a BEAUTIFUL work of art, AMAZING story, and just all around perfect game. Five of five.

This game is really enteraining and unique. It is kind of games that are very strange , and have their own morals. Biggest question is the fact that friend in the end is a simple yellow octopus , but i just think he was an small octopie in the start. I just can't understand that game , but it is really fun. Not too much of worth to replay it , but really nice.

Very deep. I kinda think like your sitting with a friend at a pond. And all of a sudden your friend shouts out "I can breathe forever!" and then jumps in, never returning to the surface. Then you go find him, uniting with your friend. Very touching game. 10/5

The friend turned into the squid and wrote letters that were short cause of him not being able to breath oxygen anymore. EVOLUTION

at first i thought it was a sad game. i though that his friend just went exploring for years, terrified and engulfed at the huge underground world, yet so facinated. i thought that he explored for a long time, then eventually slipped past the thin line of maddness and thought he could really hold his breath forever. i thought he then jumped into the water and never came out, and his friend (you) finnally joined him. but the fact that the squid was his friend shattered that idea and really brightened the mood of the game lol 4.5/5
