Arrow key up = Accelerate
Arrow key down = Reverse

You probably get the idea from the rest of the comments but really the game itself isn't bad, just the control scheme. Forward and back should control acceleration, not instantly jump to full speed. I feel like the wheels should center themselves when you're not holding right or left but that might be OK if it wasn't for the acceleration issue.
