I am incredibly impressed by this game, it isn't all about 'OMG, spam this 1 unit and skill and win!', especially at the later levels, I found myself neglecting the 'Quake' spell for example, but as I progressed further in to the game, I found that Quake was actually an incredibly useful skill to have, use and upgrade. Also, the order in which you send out your troops is also very important and can mean the different between a gold medal and 10 raids away from the gold medal. A definite 5/5 from me!

Now I really regret building all those perfect impenetrable mazes in tower defense games. I also taught villagers how to defend with that.

Very nice twist on the genre, with polished visuals, interface, and gameplay. The upgrade system is perfect and the game is well balanced. This game has an unique game design, a handful of wittiness, simple controls and hotkeys. 5/5.

Since SimpleHarmonic mentions Suuljin's comment, I'm sure a lot of people are wondering what it is. So to save people from scouring the hell of dead comments, here it is:
The basic strategy for Villainous is to keep every unit shielded and healed and to stun key towers. Get Rainbow as soon as possible, upgrade unit max, HP and auras, get Circus, then upgrade MP max /efficiency and earthquake for later levels.
A rusher army could look like g, g, h, s, g, g, g, g, h, s, g, g (g=goblin, h=healer, s=shieldgolem). If you use this army, stun bogtowers every wave or just include some cleansers on those levels. That team can raze every map. Have fun ;)

SimpleHarmonic's method of gghsggggshgg gave me 57 on the last stage. What a great method. Like holy crap. Also, no map has Bog if you just stun them so while I didn't test it (Went through the game using Mammoths like the tutorial told me to), this method probably works for everything.

I thoroughly enjoyed the way the game played out. For those who didn't notice and/or didn't read the tutorial, there is a speedup button. If you hit the play button after you send out your wave, clicking it again will toggle speed up on and off.

These are the games I love where they reverse the idea. I'm always curious to see how they turned out. Thanks for making this. Was fun for sure and you made the idea work really well. The castle upgrade looked very nice too. A nice touch.

Why do people complain about grinding? I only repeated levels after I beat the game - to get every upgrade on the castle. The best tactic is to get the treasures immediately (clue - what do pirates do with treasure) and then focus on summoning capacity. When you max that out, save up for the evil rainbow of happiness (clue - look at the badge for its location) then do the same for the circus (clue - not in the castle). After that, the tower abilities are probably best, although its up to your strategy. If you focus on spells, than the higher upgrades are better. If you focus on units than the lower upgrades are better. I know this is a bit big-headed and long, but I feel it is useful, so please + it.

How to get gold on every level: Get rainbow / circus / heal aura max/ shield aura max. Then use the following order. r/r/g/h/r/r/r/r/g/h/r/r. This means you need max summon. And then you need a couple of timely heals and stun bog towers and later one use quake on clustered towers.

I'd like to see the "Menu" button displayed less prominently. When at the Castle, I expect that button to return me to the game, not exit out of it. I'll learn, eventually, but it's still an awkward design choice. Since the Menu only allows you to load or start a new game, there's virtually no reason to go there once you're already playing.

I found that on the earlier levels it's actually easier to get the gold medal simply by sending out an entire wave of Goblins and then using the spells logically to keep them alive til the end :)

Wow, quite an amazing game, i've spent quite a bit of time on it already, and will probably a lot more in the future, i think it should have more locations, if not a sequel :D

Great game, one of the best upgrade games I've played, I think that income from conquered territories would be a great addition to this game or maybe something to consider adding to a sequel (if there's gonna be one).

My strategy for the last level was to use Goblin,Turtle,Elemental,Healer,Golem,Goblin,Goblin,Goblin,Goblin,Healer,Golem,Turtle.For spells,I used to stun bog tower at start of every turn,when I reached the range of an atomic tower,I used quake to take out all 3 atomic towers and the middle arrow tower with quake temporarily.When it would recover it would shoot an missile on your last unit(that is,the great mammoth turtle:P). Only the turtle would be damaged as others would be constantly moving.I won gold easily with this strategy. Oh, I forgot to say, heal when necessary

It's not very satisfying to get the gold and raze the town but the level still ends with all your guys dead and the town looking fine. I want to see the town burning.

Good final fantasy references.(upgrades of heal spells mention about cura and curaga). Anyways its an unique game in it genre and it has much potential as well.I also liked the part to be evil.(I personally like villains over heroes.Good job creators.This deserves a 5/5:)

Need some infamy? Rush a previously ravaged village with max goblins, took 2nd lvl with 12 goblins with max hp and got 52 pillages before they died

Now that this game has such a high rating, I bet other developers will start making failed versions of Tower Attack games. Fortunately, no other tower attack game made will ever beat Villainous!
