Three out of five. Woul'dve worked better as a more abstract shooter with minimalist graphics IMO. But then again, there are games that already do that better than this ever could.

Amazing new flash technology allows your copilot 'Annie' to sound like a whore even when she is saying things like 'New enemy type detected'

The automatic firing feature is an excellent one that more games should use. However, I am annoyed that that the powerpods will spray into unreachable areas if I happen to be near the edge when it happens.
This game is a little too simple to hold my attention for very long, but long term engagement might not have been the goal of the design.

Lots of useful info there guys. I've uploaded a new version which fixes some of the issues.
1. Made the player movement less sensitive.
2. Capped the frame skip (the chatroom was causing havok with my code) so it shouldn't be so jerky.
3. Made the effect when an enemy is appearing brighter: You should be able to see it better now and dodge out of the way.
The ship flying against the side problem is caused by pressing a direction, clicking outside the play area, then releasing the direction button. Sot sure how to fix this at the moment, but for now don't click outside the play area - you can hold down the fire button so you shouldn't need to click, and also you can select autofire from the pause menu.
Thanks everyone for your comments.

The controls are far too sensitive - I had trouble moving the right amount to collect powerups every time I tried to get one. I occasionally ran into a bug; I was moving normally, then one of my controls got stuck down (in the game - my keyboard was fine) for a while. I could move in the complimentary directions, but not away from the wall. Something I would like to see implemented is a list of powerups and what they do.

I really think it has potential, but its much too laggy, even on a good computer, with low graphics and 1 background program.
2/5 for now, make the game playable for the masses and we'll talk.

Movement with the keyboard is awkward. If you can somehow manage to allow the mouse to move the ship and also shoot, that would improve the controls immediately. As for gameplay, like others have said, it does get repetitive. Plus we need more pictures of the co-pilot Annie or whatever her name is on the screen... lol
