Wow.... sometimes you just never know.... for about 25 straight days i was on top of the world. didn't lose a single survivor and had fortifications like freaking mad. Then all at once, during an attack, i lost 6 survivors and about quarter of my city. literally everyday after that resulted in a minimum of 2 survivors lost a day until our extinction.... Doesn't make me wanna stop playing.... just makes me a little sad that i was one of the first one to go, which explains why the fort didn't last long afterward.

The people of Ghosttown have completely thrown off the zombie apocalypse by taking every city block, drafting a constitution, closing the evil portal, and curing zombieism. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough farms. Population: 0.

i was playing on nightmare and only had one guy left, a builder so i said screw it and put him on detail. zombie attack: defense 30 vs 306 zombies. fort held?!

"Let's face it: Morale around here sucks. We're not going to build a bar today. Maybe not tomorrow, either, until we get some decent amenities around here."
So what you're saying is, you won't be building a bar until you have something that would make you happier, help you relax? You mean like a bar?

The Zombie Kill Squad
these guys calling themselves the zombie kill squad showed up today armed to the teeth. After asking for some pointers they went out and offed zero of the Zed surrounding our fort. Nice guys!

oh, yeah...I think motels should have the capacity to house 2-4 survivors. Then you clean them up to make them able to fit 8 people.

I can't believe I beat it on nightmare. 107 days, 150 food and 66 survivors with scientific victory.
I wish there was more strategy to it, but in the end it came down to pure, blind luck. I happened to spawn next to a lot of farms and apartment buildings and just kept on growing till the end. I also invested heavily in tech, but I doubt that had much effect on my success.
Hope that helps someone.

wow... I finished the game on harder, then decided to keep playing... which resulted in me not getting credit for it... ahahaha burn on me.

my mom works in a convenience store... right next to a grade school, a bar, another convenience store, and a few houses. everytime I go up there I can't help but wonder how many survivors are in the buildings now. xD

instead of trying to expand gradually in all directions (which would APPEAR to be the best way), expand rapidly to one of the edges, then go from there towards a corner.
see, only so many zombies will remain "out there" away from the borders. but they will accumulate on the borders if you let them. so let them accumulate...on 3/4 of your borders.
oh, and max-abuse the time-warping of save files if you're doing insane by having two instances of rebuild open.

Mann, Imstarting to notice after about day fifty on Hard its almost impossible to expand without loosing someone in the party and then you get attacked and over run... :/

Game: 2% chance of fortress being overrun.
Me:That'll never happen. Anyway, 1 turn away from researching Zombie Antivenom!
Game: Lost 5 squares and 4 survivors (including both of the people researching Zombie Antivenom).
Me: WTF! GODDAMMIT!
Zombies: U mad bro?

Farms: Never work when you want them to. Low on morale and zombies murdering your already low amount of people? Too bad. The farms will only grow when times are good.

Scavengers would be something that emerged after the Zombie Apocalypse, mostly. After all, right now there's not much call for people to run into a dangerous area to scout it and bring back supplies. RL I'd say they'd be military scouts, outdoorsmen or nature lovers, hunters, track stars...anything that would help someone survive a food run in the game world of today. And, of course, you'd be AMAZED what skills you find yourself with in a crisis.

Nightmare is well a nightmare. One time it gave me 4 random events in a row that basically killed off every soldier and scavenger. The game feels like it should just say "F*** you" at times.

What's the real life equivalent of a scavenger? Soldiers were soldiers, scientists are doctors etc, builders are carpenters or construction workers, but what the hell could a scavanger have been? Thieves? Hobos?
