yeah needs to be longer, the grind curve from the sapphire to diamond equips is really low when you get cooling IV, also the jewlery man giving you 50000 cash is really cheap and lame... makes the other half of the game seem rushed

dying makes you lose all your ores and $250, but refills 50% hp or 50% energy. However you can't have negative $.... and losing all your ores doesnt hurt if you have no ores. i.e. can suicide for profit!!

Hooray, I saved Utopia and made the world a better place by completely destabilizing the ground upon which the city is built!

I really felt like there was something missing, as if it was just a very short demo. You get the discount in the plant, but it's also at the mechanic, which you never get. The rebuilding of the town was a nice concept, but only 3 things are actually built. You can get best equipment too fast, if you get 7500 and get the best cooling, then best drill, the health aspect doesn't come into play - ever. Robot does move too slow, the resource at the beginning are cheap and scattered, moving from one side of the map to the next takes so damn long. There is a huge unused space on the surface, were you planning on something longer maybe? As it is, I give it 3/5 it's good, but could've been REALLY better, there is a ton of room for improvement.

I have to lol at how everyone is all "it takes forever to get to the dig site!" Guys... there is no dig site. Just dig wherever. >_>

i did it! i mined every square! muahahaha, screw you AngryCyc. awesome game, i liked the 'sand' aspect, i would like to see a sequel with more too it, like only certain things that can be found in sand, perhaps add a a sea area that you need an update to your motor to be able to mine,(perhaps add other things like a swamp or a mud area to make it a 'unique' mining game. also more quests and stuff, good game (took me about two hours to mine it all :p ended up with 440300 in cash.

A decent little game. Not great, but definitely worth playing. Of course, I love mining/mining games ( if they're entertaining ). 4/5 on that note. My favourite thing was opening the map ( which I had forgotten about for a while due to it being useless once you know where things are ), I loved seeing all my little tunnels through everything :)

Why isn't there a way to move faster? It takes me at least a minute of pointless walking back and forth from town to the dig site. Makes the game a real drag to play.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Yeah, ppl, you do move slowly. Until you buy a better drill. Not only does that increase drilling speed, it also increases general movement speed.

This was an amazing game. 5/5. But I would love to see expansions to it as in a bigger area to mine, more ores, and more buildings you can construct.

This game is an excellent short form of the mining genre. The standard mining game loop of drill-upgrade-drill is here, and it never gets to the point where you spend lots of time drilling in one particular area. The only upgrade that I ever felt significantly limited me was the Cooling Power upgrade. It might be a good idea to beef the early versions of that upgrade up a bit. Walking speed is definitely too slow at the beginning, it might be a good idea to increase initial walking speed, if not drilling speed. Getting the sand in the early game was especially painful because of this. I'll definitely be recommending this game to my friends as an intro to this genre.

Absolutely magnificent. Not only is it one of my favourite genre of flash games, but it also brought back memories of Motherload from my early years. The flawless 8-bit style graphics gave the game a certain Je ne sais quoi, that I'm sure attracts a lot of gamers, one being me. Fantastic gameplay, a simple yet interesting storyline, but unfortunately short. 4/5. Expecting more game like this from you. :)

WOW! Great hidden achievement for drilling every bit of earth! It took a lot of time, but DAMN that was worth it! Great work sir. It's little tid-bits like those that really make a game. Thank you for that.

Love this kind of games and they all make me dream of a future Terraria 2.
This game is fun until the lab-guy comes up, then it starts to get a bit tedious because now I realize I've only come to the 'third' ore and there are like five left...

The mute option isn't working here, already tried a lot of times and nothing happened. The 'x' to start isn't working too, you must to click to play.

Although Utopian Mining is not an orginal style of game,I had lots of fun playing it,but it seems a little easy when you are nearer at the end.If this was improved, this can be a Great Game! 4/5

It's like motherload, except with cooler looking textures and you have a point to dig, other than getting money. That is making the city grow. 5/5.

This is ridiculous - I lose energy and health just walking along, and once you have to be rescued, you are constantly about to die from health or running out of energy. I can't even get to any more ores to make money to take care of it.

for the third quest to get the wolfram it seems you need a level 5 cooling system which costs 7500, now that is an aweful lot of grinding.... so im going to have to stop here, fun game, less grinding between the upgrades would be helpful

The game would make an excellent introduction to the subgenre. Excellent music, good graphics, annoyingly slow walking speed (but that might just be me), very poor late game balance. Ends with a bit of a whimper. The mechanic where the player can choose what not to sell with the number keys NEEDS to be better flagged up - I skipped over that part, then had to restart the game to find the instructions once it became essential. Overall, its a well-made, if poorly balanced game, with little replay value. Also, as a pedant and a philosophy student, the name drives me nuts.
Well, yes, this game was inspired by 'Motherload'. It is about mining ores and selling them to buy upgrades and drill deeper. Utopian Mining is part of this mining genre, so the games share the same basic concept. However, I did my very best to make it different to other mining games, by adding a different atmosphere, a story, some quests, cartoony-8bit-graphics and another feeling to it (and some other small stuff, too).

I thought this game had a lot of hope initially, but I ended up highly disappointed. The concept was interesting initially of rebuilding a town, but there is no "failure" unless you are dumb enough to drill to deep and die. Basically just mine and get better equipment then mine further. The overall balance and dynamic of the game needs to be drastically improved.
