No, no, this is strange. I was running along and I suddenly saw a vamp. So I quickly threw my cog at it and it suddenly got a quickening (saw it float into air, quickening style) and needless to say, I died...

Patch 1.0.3 should be up now.
Pretty sure I uploaded it a while ago but someone just mentioned an old bug below and what do you know, uploading it didn't work (pretty sure I published as well). A lot of bugs were fixed and a few tuning changes as well.
Need to give it a little time to confirm the game is stable (very hard to track bugs when you can do odd things like enchant your bow with light or gain the ability to walk thru walls). Then if there's enough demand we'll see about some badges. Feel free to make suggestions.

...I never had a chance to use the scythe. I read the wallsign "Elbereth" and my fury took form and killed the Balrog before I even saw it. I love the RNG. When I don't hate it.

This is an astonishingly well made game. The combat can be fast paced and fiercely tactical, and the developer gives you the choice between two combat types. The atmosphere is perfect, and when combined with the stellar soundtrack is well deserving of the horror tag. Superb presentation.

A portal to the Underworld lets your minion come back if it dies. Eating runes: Bleed - you take HP damage. Heal - fast HP regen. Light - you light the area for a while. Thorns - ???. Undead - if you are killed shortly after, you gain full HP and your character now looks like a skeleton.

Who is "he"? and if I apply the rune of slow to my sword, will it apply it to my enemies or will it apply it to me on when I equip my sword?

Great game, love the fact that you can enchant your armor and weapons. Very gloomy and "alone" feeling to it, which is something I enjoy about games.

Okay, I need to confirmed, please.
Does enchanting a weapon with a Heal Rune, cause your target to regen HP?
This seems to be the case as far as I can tell. Shouldn't that particular enchantment heal you when you attack with that weapon, instead of healing your target?

@jiiberish. no. you can't give your armor invisibility. There is just AN ACTUAL INVISIBLE ARMOR. There's no such invisibility enchantment in the source code.

Haha, my last character was killed by some monster's quickening. And now I randomly killed Balrog by my quickening! Sweet, sweet revenge!

"New Game+" and the epilogue is a nice touch. Now I just need to test the "Timeless Bubble Overworld" hint I heard of.

If your minion is wearing the dryad face (or nymph?) and you go to the underworld it can steal Death's Scythe for you. It's a level 20 behemoth.

great game and pleasantly confusing - still I'd like to know what the hell is the undead rune supposed to do when cast on equipment. The greatest complain is no doubt the minion AI - he's too dumb to live or do anything really useful after floor 5.Maybe is it because of the "bravery" stat?he seems to flee everytime a monster tries to gut me...

@wisemage that's the point of a rogue-like game its to explore and figure it out (your self) which are best and what works against what. its fun

um, why can you level up forever by leaving the dungeon and whacking on the wheel to the right? and why does it the chest not open anymore?

I think that the entries in the log (besides maps) should stay there even if you die, it would make it easier to access data easier, and it would give you an incentive to collect the data, without raging when you die because of all the data you got was erased.

Did I do something wrong? Long before I even knew of the balrog, I had ate a rune of undead and I thought that was why I came back as a skeleton when I died, no explanation was given. So much later after collapsing the dungeon the game says something about me using a rune of time, which I never saw. There were 2 runes I hadn't identified yet before going home. I killed the balrog by having a LOT of haste on my armor and a blessed gun blade. I was able to pin him against a wall with the blessed gun blade. :)

Some enemies (I think) cast random runes on you. Or the GNR or whatever does it. It turned me into a dreadfully slow goblin! :P
Awesome game by the way. One of the most replay worthy games here in quite some time!

I just discovered that our Minion is @, the player from the original Rogue. And the rogue you use here is the widow. I used a scroll of identify on the minion to check this. So yea, @ died and he is back as a skeleton.

Awesome game, I especially like all the fantasy references, once I saw the item named Brisingamen(yay Alan Garner) I was hooked, lol. Alucard the reverse vampire was in there too.

the minion should only attempt to lead in horizontal directions, and should NOT choose to go up or down ladders or pits unless you lead him there or you're separated and it's a quicker way to get back to you. also, for combat reasons, he should attempt to get on the same level as you immediately if you're on a higher level, even if you have to stand together on the same square of the map, and if he's above you he should attempt to get Directly above you and Then jump down to your level, so that if you're fighting an enemy he'll stun it. of course, pathfinding should override these rules if he's separated by more than about 4-8 squares and there isn't a line of sight to you (meaning he's separated and his knife throw won't connect with an enemy) or he's more than one platform above you, in which case the stun advantage isn't as valuable as getting back to you.

I couldn't summon my minion after a while. Is there a reason why the minion vanishes permanently? I must be missing something obvious.

I'm a bespectacled werewolf with a stolen amulet of Yendor, my minion finally came out of the walls and now is a screaming scythe-waving blood fountain in a bubble of magic, I have no idea what the end boss looks like now or where it went, there's a headless corpse roaming the bottom of the level perpetually leaving a trail of gore, and there's an army of red horrors atomizing all the monsters. I'm afraid to blink.

Monsters only quicken when hit with an XP rune. most of the time that kills you. Or if you're lucky you survive but the monster's level is higher and it gets a sudden boost of Haste. The Lightning weapon doesn't cause quicken when hitting enemies unless it's enchanted with the "?" (Chaos) rune.

Why does closing the menu cause a very small passing of time, in dogmatic mode? Even this brief moment can be devastating in later levels.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It would be nice if hotkeys didn't move the menu position. For instance when using a hotkey for turning on/off the dogmatic mode.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
You can't set a hotkey for the map, but you can set one for a quest? O_o
And all it does is go to that quest in the menu but doesn't open the menu. So a map hotkey would require you to open the menu anyways it seems, because the map isn't a window in and of itself as far as I can tell, it's just part of the menu.
So, yeah, a separate map that's accessible from a hotkey would be great. :)
