Under rating threshold (show) So that's why the phrase was: Christina lives. If they manage to find the bird it proves that Christina's mother Christina is still alive. And I had to read back to understand what Lionel meant when he said they were looking for a phoenix in the cockateils. Crazy reference to the characters dying in a fire. It's a very well thought-out game. The puzzles were simple, but it's very hard to design a puzzle that would work with all the different storylines with the same layout, considering the buildings they were in and stuff. So maybe that's why they had to keep it simple, and the main thing was the story anyway =)

Under rating threshold (show) I guess I should put SPOILER ALERT for this comment and the two below. After reading the comments I'm even more amazed at the game. I'll summarise everything here: The security codes arranged in a square grid say 'Rise from the ashes'. The badge name had a meaning as well as a reference to a movie, Google it! The name of the game can be read as "No, one has to die" as in Christina died in the last timeline. Finally, if Christina manages to save her mother in the alternate universe, she would not have to set the fire, and no one has to die, not even the security guards!

Under rating threshold (show) That was surprisingly poignant. I was going to criticize the puzzle aspect for being too easy, but I think it worked well in that it didn't hamper the story, which was the real draw anyway. I did have a bit of trouble figuring out the very first one, so you could add some more description about water flowing before fire spreads and that you don't need to keep the sprinklers on to keep the fire from spreading past it. Other than that, great fun.

Under rating threshold (show) I wonder what this would be like as a movie. Very intense, it has a nice concept, story, and execution. At first I couldn't wrap it around my brain, ended up replaying some parts, but once you understand, it's really good and somehow mind-blowing for me. I would like another game like this.

Under rating threshold (show) For anyone confused with the cockateils story, here's the explanation: The company tested the machine on Christina's mother but her consciousness never returned. They came up with a theory that Christina's mother's consciousness altered the timeline when it went back and is currently living in a different future. To test the theory, they taught millions of cockatiels to say a phrase, and sent all of them back in time. Each of the cockatiels went back to their own timelines where only they know the phrase. The cockateils altered their own timelines, and by chance in one of them the Fenix Corp is still created, and is captured by them. The Fenix Corp then put all the cockateils in the machine. The time-travelled cockteil would not have altered the timeline this time, since it was no different from before when it arrive at the past (it already know the phrase), and thus it returns to the same future. The rest lives in a different timeline and are thus "dead" in the original future.

Under rating threshold (show) Typically, I hate choice-based games. On the first 'playthrough', I wanted to refresh the game so I could try out a different way of going through the game. But then I got to the end of that playthrough and was greatful I hadn't. It's all just part of the game. And that's what is so ingenious about this game.

But I found a comment on another site: If it makes you feel any better about everything, once she finally found her mother again, Christina Jr. wouldn't have a reason to start the fire in the first place... which means that in that universe, no-one has to die.
