New rule: When venturing farther than the first three towns, pray you don't get caught by bandits with GUNS GUNS GUNS!! I did. I had only two people in the group.
I got Pwn3d. Shoulda got more people, automatic weapons, and Bulletproof vests.

okay, actually dug out the numbers- wooden carts all have a load factor of 2, so small cart=2x150(donkey)-40=260, big cart=2x150-160=140 (yes, donkey pulling big cart carries less than donkey with no cart). Now, if you were using an ox- 2x500-40=960, drops to max of 300, 2x500-160=840, a small cart on an ox has less capacity than an ox without a cart...

I apologize, but I find this game quite unrealistic, based mainly off of the difficulty of travelling, and the pathetic effectiveness of a rifle. Especially when one only begins with $1000 dollars, you have very limited options. Then, even after deciding (after dying many times) to buy a helper, he she dies to the hoard of ninjas anyways because there isn't enough money to give him/her a weapon that can significantly help me fight off 6 ninjas. I also give this example because out of the 40 battles I was in, only 2 of them involved less than 5 people. Forget this game! (rage quit)

defensivegod- was reading tutorial, and page http://www.sugar-free-games.com/caravaneertutorial.php?page=13 talks about transport. it seems your donkey is too small to pull the big cart. (animal transport x cart factor-wieght of cart) I didn't dig for the actual numbers but if donkey was 100, small cart was 146 kilos, and factor of 4, that would make 254. big cart might factor of 6, but 424 kg, giving you the smaller number

Attempt #2... buy cart, load up on leather, leave town... find some more robbers... died again. What kind of sadistic crap is this?? Was this made by the same people that made the ET game for Atari?

been playing this game for years. I love rollin across the deert in my hummer , loaded down with gold, running from East to west, with a pack of bandits tailing me the whole way

This game seems to be too realistic. You are just some person that decides to go off into the wilderness on a whim. You go out unprepared, you die. There seems to be no way to prepare because the only time I didn't die in my first encounter, I was up against 2 unarmed robbers. Every other time, I was up against robbers with swords and guns and there were anywhere from 3-6 of them.

Whoah. Even though the game's graphics are not as robust as, say, other games or the sequel promised by the dev it is STILL A CHALLENGE! Know how some 8-bit games appeal to some people because of the challenge they pose to the player? That's this game. Just because it looks simplified doesn't mean it's EASY!
I just learned the HARD WAY that only 2 out of 3 towns in the first "route" sell enough livestock feed to make those trips. It quickly becomes a balancing act between the Goods you want to trade, the Food and Water and Feed you need, and the AMMUNITION you'll want to keep handy if you want to survive out there. It doesn't make sense to tank up on all of one thing until you're ABSO-TIVELY POSI-LUTELY CERTAIN in Iron-clad terms you can make the trip to your destination. Even then, you have to keep an eye on your wallet or you'll run out of funds to make any purchases for essentials.

Regarding combat, don't rush in, early on. It's easy against melee, if you're patient. Remember that it takes AP to close and then more to attack, and as someone gets wounded, they have less AP. Get an idea of how fast the fastest guy goes, then position yourself so he runs up to you but can't attack. Get one or more free hits on him with some of your AP and then back off. Rinse and repeat. The side benefit is that all that AP spending will quickly increase your max AP up to its limit.

@Walrusgs: No, people don't ride on either animals or on the carts attached to them. (That's for cargo.) You have to get a vehicle for you and your people; either ATVs or jeeps or the like. You won't find vehicles in the first towns, but the towns in the southwest of the map do have them.

@Thariel: Using your map will tell you how far your destination is, and what compass direction. (Click on your current location, drag to your destination.) Your Caravan screen tells you how much you consume each day, and how fast you go per hour (multiply by 24 to get how far you go in a day), so you know how long it will take to get to your destination. Gather supplies accordingly. It's just like using a map and compass, instead of using the shortcut of your map application on your smartphone.

This game sucks. I got ambushed 4 times 1 right after the other. Kongregate should at least play a game before putting it up for the badge of the day. Make sure it's not sandbagging players.

I think I figured out the medicine, it seems its used only while you're walking through the desert, not while in battle, so as far as I know, you can't heal in battle. The game is fun, but I can't figure out how to get the badge? you have to buy $10,000 worth of stuff from the market then leave the town?

crappy game.. it doesn't say how long a journey wll take, so i cannot plan properly and i have bought lots of water bottles/canisters but can't fill them

When you are creating a character it would be very nice to know how those stats are converted into hps, aps and so on... What's intelligence for?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@Walrusgs You can only ride vehicles. So to go as fast as horses allow, you need enough vehicles for yourself and all of your men.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Horses, 15km/h, but I can't seem to figure out a way to ride them, so I'm stuck at my walking speed of 6 km/h. Anyone know how this works?

can't read the directions on the map - text is white on a light background. So then you get out into the desert with nothing but unexplained moving circles and ... they attack you and you are dead. Game over.
I don't think I'll bother starting from the beginning a second time.

It could help if the game could tell when a player hasn't gone through the tutorial page first, just to anviliciously let them know about important considerations they should make before going on their first route. Food and water!! I forgot about those and max'd out on leather my first try. Before I knew it, i was stuck with no sustenance in the desert. Bad move on my part, I restarted and made a new character and made SURE I got provisions down first. Profits can come after I make sure I'll make it to the next town. First, I needed to make sure I could survive the desert.

I have to say, this game does not do much to teach the player how to play. Just menus and a back story, that's it. Can't say I'd recommend this to anyone.

Oh - to add insult to injury, I just noticed my Achievement progress after this more "successful" attempt: $7098 / 10,000. Probably would have gotten the badge if the RNG didn't come up with a 6 bandit party.
