Incredibly touching and challenging game. The art style does justice to the mood and the lack of a story is perfect. The music is moody and the sound-effects, specifically in the latter part of the game, are great. I can't complain, except for maybe that it ends. I'd gladly play a dozen games like this, sequels or otherwise. Great work!

@windracket, the gree story ends sadly too, orpheus lokks back to make sure he wasnt being cheated by hades and then she gets doomed for eternity(world biggest DOH!)

Terry Cavanagh - what can I say? You have a beautiful art for creating heart touching, beautiful to in-depth amazing stories, with only about 8 pixels per character, I loved VVVVVV, which brought me to this and other distractionware games, which are equally as great. As for this game alone: It's a wonderful reference to Orpheus, which I really enjoyed, great gameplay, and well-made bosses, the best 8-bit flash game I've ever seen.

Sorry but I know how the Greek Mythology story ends but this game is very different from it....soooo yeah why a bitter sad ending? I was kinda hoping for the woman's soul to return to her body so they could live in happiness. =) I like happy endings.

HOW TO DEFEAT FIRST BOSS (the dog Cerberus) Ive tried shooting jumping on its head AND making it jump into the barrier (which it wouldn't go in to). PLEASE HELP Great game by the way.

I really liked the mechanic where looking back meant game over. would have been really powerful if that was brought to the fore instead of the usual jumping around, maybe a shorter game where, if you had looked back you'd lose instantly. and have to start from the very beginning o .o The story itself didn't move me as much as I expected, though the ghost's gasp as she disappears was itself very powerful. Wished the guy at the end, in front of the tombstone had looked back though, instead of his soul just disintegrating on its own =/

@ZerVexon: Actually, filfire is right. Hades was the name of the God of the Underworld for the Greeks, aswell as the Underwold itself. The Roman Gods were adopted from the Greek mythology, they basically renamed every God. Zeus became Jupiter, Ares became Mars, and so on. They named Hades Pluto. :)

The ending has brought me an ice cold feeling of myself and i realised how sad it was. The story and meaning of this is wonderful on one hand and sad on another. That ice cold feeling hold on for maybe 20 seconds i think. It was extreme. And the moment i realised why this game is named "dont look back" i was scared like hell and i always was scared the moments i actually HAD to look back because there was no more way to go. To face this soul, see her disappear and actually die. This game is a real masterpiece. Respect.

so basicly a guy goes to the underworld to take someone back from it, fights all sorts of monsters and stuff, saves her, but not once after that was she alive again, killing themselfes with something that sounds like a dementor from harry potter

@filfire: Hades was the name of the Underworld for the Romans, not the Greeks. To get past Cerberus, he played his lyre to lull him to sleep. The Maenaden were followers of Dionysus( Dee-oh-ni-uh-sus), not dionysos.

Can anyone recommend any other games like this? I am thinking Infinite Ocean, K.O.L.M, Loved, The Majesty of Colors, The Company of Myself and there was one more I can't remember its name about a child's subconcious and it got more realistic as the game was progressing. Anyway, I am looking forward to my fellow Kong players' recommendations!

The levels start easy enough to be interesting and fun, but then all of a sudden they get so hard, they're all but impossible to beat. Could have been brilliant, but just isn't. :|

Great game, sad, and hard, mostly hard because the jumping is slightly lagged and the platforms are smaller than they appear.

Note: the dog boss can be killed in three shots, it just has to be from behind. Probably because when you shoot it from the front, he eats them. Anyways, this is a great game, and I hope their will be more like it.

just finished the game ... i see the entire game like the hell that he must go trough to ...not forget ... but live with fact that his beloved one is no more ... and the unique solution to this ... let a part of himself die ... or he would be condemned to live with the ghost of his love

I love the randomness of the enemy's attacks, many of these infinite re-spawn platformers turn into a "die-until-you-figure-out-the-pattern" game... when the spikes in the final boss battle started falling only after the 4th or 5th time he killed me, and I thought I had the pattern figured out, I was impressed... maybe others play more then I do, but I was caught off gaurd by an attack I had never seen before... and when the jumping harpie things in the late underworld (after first boss) changed how far and when they would jump depending on my actions the previous time through... but it was rewarding to get through and thats what games are for.

good game 10/10. unfortunately, my computer isnt the best around, so it lagged a lot and wouldnt let me jump when i wanted to sometimes, but i still enjoyed this game a lot

No, you do NOT have to shoot the dog in the back.
I like the concept, but the controls are FAR too glitchy for the bosses. I've beaten this game before, on another site, but Cerberus needs too much finesse for the controls.

Attack pattern on the dog: under and shoot, under and shoot, over and shoot. Attack pattern on the giant: shoot on the way down, attempt to double him on the last two phases. If you time tings right, you can be climbing the platforms for another shot while he's recovering.

The moral of the story, DON'T LOOK BACK RETARD! Seriously, the ending makes no sense. People will read into it all they want because of that fact. Are you really going to fall for that? I won't.

I like it how bosses in this game are harder than WoW bosses, at least, you can't win with afking pressing 1-1-1-1-1-1

Awesome! I have to admit "Dragons_scorn" for his idea. Kongregate definitely needs a new category for this kind of game. There are a lot of sad and thoughtful games around here which get lost in the sea of flash games in wrong categories. 5/5
