boss guide: dog: it jumps around randomly. you have to shoot from behind to hurt it. when you shoot it the first time, it jumps further. the second time, it jumps so low you have to jump over it. the third shot kills it. demon: it randomly shoots balls and later summons spiders and stalagmites. you have to shoot it in the head to hurt it. 5 shots should kill it

Tip: When fighting hades, shoot his head on the way down. once you land on the platform, jump right before it dissappears and shoot his head again.

I find it interesting that there are no enemies to kill after you find the woman's spirit. I guess he just wants her to think he's not a ruthless spider assassin.

Very great game with amazing ending. The only whine I have is that most of the combat, especially the final boss, is based around chance. It took me 70 tries to kill that mofo. But still, a masterpiece.

This game is one of the best made games ever made. Even without words or anything. A man whose wife died and he along died with her not physically but emotionally. He looks back but he knows she will won't be there. So simple yet the story line was great.

This is the story of Orpheus, for anyone who doesn't know; he lost his lover and travelled to the underworld to reclaim her soul. In the myth, he made a deal with Hades. She would follow him out of the underworld, but if he looked back and saw her, she would be trapped forever. He almost reached the end and thought Hades had tricked him, so looked back to check if she was following and lost her forever. The story is somewhat altered to be more of a game than a movie, but it still conveys the basic message. I gave it 5/5.

This game is based off a greek myth about a young man who's wife died so he went to the underworld and played his instrument (I forget what it's called its a small harp) to hades. The music was so beautiful that Hates let him take his wife if he doesn't look at her well going to the overworld, but he didn't believe Hades so he turned around and she disappeared. This isn't the same story, but that's whats it based on. Thats why you can't look back.

For those who do not know: It is the greek myth of Orpheus (did I spell that right?) in the underworld. In a nutshell, heres the story: A great bard Orpheus lost his wife to a poisonous snake. He loved her so much, that he went to the underworld to speak with Hades. Along the way, he sung a song of such great sorrow that even some of the spirits wept. Hades agreed to let his wife return to the land of the living on one condition: That Orpheus could not look back to make sure his wife was still there. He climbed the steps from the underworld to the land of the living, and when he was almost there, he looked back, and the wife's spirit dispersed. THE END.

Oh my god. I jut got to the moment where you get your wife. I looked at the title and flipped. Out, Great game play. Awesome re-telling 5/5

I wish I could like this game more, but enemies coming from behind and platform jumps that you have to solve in about two seconds before you die are just aggravating. I barely got past Cerberus. An easy version with everything slowed down for those who just want the story would be really nice. I've read that the story is wonderful, but I can't finish the game.

ah and by the way i think about a different meaning of the end..never look back...when u focus too much on what u lost u get sucked into a nightmare , trying to find a reason,trying to give a sense to your loss...there's a high chance you won't come back and even if you find the solution,even if you manage to get back, probably,it's already too late,probably,now you are just another ghost...

Played for the badge. I enjoyed the challenging game design at first. But towards the end the unresponsive controls took the fun out of it

This game is quite challenging, but screens are short and reset quickly if you fail them. It allows you to adapt a strategy for each encounter and incrementally figure out how to outmaneuver the enemies. The bosses are pretty fun and have simple mechanics. The only thing that felt really unfair was the projectile randomness in the fights against Hades and especially against the first shooting enemy. It shoots too fast to jump over all projectiles and the only strategy I've found to kill this guy is to beg RNG for it to shoot enough fireballs over my head to let me kill it while jumping over the ones aimed at me. The second half of the game is incomparably easy though and all the empty rooms break up the action to make it all the more boring. If those rooms featured some writing, for example messages tempting Orpheus to turn around, they would at least be interesting. Fun but not without flaws, 4/5 for a pretty nice game and good memories from when I first played it 10 years ago.

Interesting take on a classic myth, and an "A" for effort, but the nasty difficulty curve and repetitive (albeit decent) music forces me to relegate my score to a 3.

1: for all you losers that say the dog doesn't die, shoot his rear, not his head. 2: Don't say the game sucks just bc you suck AT IT. 3: for the last boss shoot him on the way down, then jump and shoot again before the platform disappears. Also, I found it easier to kill him quick rather than being patient. 4: You don't have to kill everyone, so when it comes to snakes, jump over them! Great game 5/5.
